On Wednesday, March 12, Coterie reportedly filed a complaint against Wendy Williams’ niece, Alex Finnie, per TMZ. In an exclusive story, the outlet revealed that Finnie had taken the former talk show host out for dinner.
Coterie refers to senior living facilities in San Francisco and New York City. Atria Senior Living launched the SF- and NYC-based venture in 2022 with the real estate firm Related Companies. The housing project aims to combine senior residency with luxury and offers independent and assisted living, as well as memory care.
Wendy Williams has been a resident at the Coterie facility, housed in Manhattan's Hudson Yards neighborhood, for the last eight months. The Coterie Hudson Yards building is located at 505 West 35th Street in New York City. Per its official website, residents can access many amenities in studio, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom apartments.
The NYC-based assisted living facility filed a police report against Wendy Williams’ niece, per TMZ

The 60-year-old media personality and former talk show host was recently seen with her niece, Alex Finnie. Per TMZ, both were returning to Coterie Hudson Yards from the hospital after Wendy Williams’ psychological evaluation. The outlet further reported that both women went out for dinner after staying at the facility for some time.
The developments on Wednesday night seemingly forced the facility to file a police report against Finnie. TMZ revealed that the complaint filed by Coterie claimed that Wendy’s niece “evaded staff by taking” the 60-year-old “out of the building.” Both women later returned to the facility after their dinner.
After learning about the police report, Wendy Williams described the situation to TMZ as “unbelievable.” The media personality reportedly once again raised concerns about her guardianship after what seemingly transpired on Wednesday night. The outlet also reported that Wendy and Alex were accompanied by an attendant before they left for dinner.
Williams was placed under court-ordered financial guardianship in May 2022 and was reportedly diagnosed with aphasia and frontotemporal dementia in 2023.
Wendy Williams described the court-ordered guardianship as ‘prison’ in a Breakfast Club interview a few months back
In January, Wendy made a rare appearance on the Breakfast Club radio show through a voice call with her niece. She talked to the hosts—DJ Envy, Charlamagne tha God, and Jess Hilarious—about her court-ordered guardianship and described it as “prison.” Wendy Williams said:
“My niece Alex knows a lot as well, you know, but I am not cognitively impaired, you know what I’m saying? But I feel like I’m in prison, you know what I’m saying? I feel like… I’m in New York City, right? And, by the way, my apartment has been sold. Thank god, you know, a while ago, but… You know, I'm in this place where the people are in their 90s and their 80s and their 70s and even when people are 60, like me, hey. I’m s**y and gorgeous.”
Maintaining that she is not “cognitively impaired,” she continued talking about her routine at the facility:
“These people, I don’t care if they are 50 and 60. They have like… Look there’s something wrong with these people here on this floor, you understand what I’m saying? And I’m not saying something bad. I’m just saying that I am with these people, I am clearly not… Look, I have breakfast, lunch and dinner, right here on the bed, all right? I watch TV, I listen to the radio. I look at the window. I talk on the phone.”
Alex Finnie, who was with her aunt on the call, also briefly mentioned her fundraiser with a $50K goal, aimed at assisting Wendy Williams in her legal battle for the removal of guardianship. As of this writing, the GoFundMe campaign has raised more than $47K to support the media personality.
One of Wendy Williams’ siblings, Tommy, recently spoke to Us Weekly and claimed that his sister “is in great shape mentally and physically” and asked to “let her out.”
