Emilia Perez bags 2025 Golden Globe in the best musical/comedy film category

Jacques Audiard’s musical crime comedy film Emilia Perez has won four awards at the 2025 Golden Globes, notably in the category of Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy. The Spanish language film's other triumphs came in the categories of Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture (Zoe Saldaña), Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language, and Best Original Song.

The 82nd edition of the Globes took place at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles with Nikki Glaser as host. A slew of Hollywood celebrities made style statements on the red carpet, including Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Demi Moore, Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie, and Zendaya.

Emilia Perez was always rising a wave of anticipation coming into the awards. The film had earned the spotlight owing to a stellar ensemble cast, unique plot and perfect execution. While the movie and its winners shone at the ceremony, lead star Zoe Saldana's heartwarming acceptance speech was cherry on the cake!

Jacques Audiard's acceptance speech was one of the moments of the evening. With the help of a translator, he addressed the audience saying:

"Happy New Year, health and nerves of steel — because in 2025 you’ll need it."

A reason he made a movie on sisterhood was because he never had a sister. Jacques said:

"If there were more sisters in the world, it might be a better place."

He added:

"I hope Emilia Pérez will be a beacon of light for those who aren’t lucky enough to count among their friends a woman as powerful and passionate as (the film’s star) Karla Sofía Gascón… At the same time time, a comforting hug to all people today who are worried — this prize is also dedicated to them. I urge them to keep their heads held high, to continue to fight and to hope for better days ahead."

Lead star Saldana's speech was another dear-diary moment. She said:

"Thank you so much to the Golden Globes for celebrating our film and honouring the women of Emilia Perez. Thank you so much. It is a first time for me and I'm just so blessed in sharing this moment with Selena and Karla and Jacque and all of my fellow nominees. I'm in awe of you, your strength, your complexity, and your undeniable talent."
