Ari Aster's fourth feature, Eddington, is well into post-production with A24, the studio that has backed him for his three features, in charge of distribution. Per Variety's report, A24 is planning a summer release and bringing it to the European Film Market this month and probably in Cannes too, which takes place between May 13, 2025, and May 24, 2025.

The past three Aster films that A24 backed include Hereditary (2018), Midsommar (2019), and Beau Is Afraid (2023). His upcoming film brings Joaquin Phoenix, who played Beau in the 2023 film, alongside other notable names like Pedro Pascal, who was recently seen as Reed Richards in The Fantastic Four: First Steps trailer, Emma Stone, Luke Grimes, and more.

Eddington's idea was there even before Hereditary and Midsommar

The film, whose plot details are being kept under wraps, will surround a New Mexico sheriff with some high aspirations. Although we'll know more about it when a trailer comes, fans must know that Aster had the idea for Eddington's story way before Midsommar and Hereditary came to fruition.

If fans want to understand more about Aster's upcoming Western, there was this AMA on Reddit where he gave snippets of what the film is about, including answers regarding Eddington too.

One of his responses about Eddington reads,

"Although it's sort of a — I don't know if you'd call it a revisionist Western. It's contemporary; one foot is in the Western and one foot is even more heavily in the noir genre. So it's like a film noir ensemble Western dark comedy."

More on the plot was shared in the Variety article (via Screen Rant) but is seemingly removed, probably to keep things tight until more is announced officially regarding the film. That synopsis reads,

"Eddington will center on a couple stranded in a seemingly welcoming desert town, only to discover that something far more sinister unfolds after nightfall."

Though it is likely to drop during summer, the film remains undated. This makes it one of the 12 undated A24 films that are scheduled to arrive this year, including Sorry, Baby, which will also be a directorial debut for Eva Victor, The Smashing Machine, If I Had Legs I'd Kick You, and more.

Other than that, A24 has 7 films with a release date that will arrive this year. Making their name into this slate are Parthenope, On Becoming a Guinea Fowl, Opus, Death of a Unicorn, Warfare, The Legend of Ochi, and Marty Supreme.
