Dune: Messiah will start shooting sooner than expected, in June 2025, according to the latest reports from Deadline.

Dune was one of the biggest spectacles from 2021, which introduced the world to its mystical setting. It showed director Denis Villeneuve's filmmaking prowess in bringing Frank Herbert's seemingly unfilmable book to screen. Villeneuve's attention to detail paid off since the film was a major box-office success.

Three years later came the sequel, which plunged back into this glorious world and brought some real-world political issues to the screen. During his appearance at 2025 Berlinale, actor Timothee Chalamet shed light on it, as he said,

"Be wary of savior-like figures. What I would have learned is what I just said, just to be wary of anyone who says they have a solution. That’s obviously a warning in Frank Herbert’s Dune.”

While currently riding on the waves of award success of A Complete Unknown, Chalamet will soon be seen in the third cinematic chapter of Dune, titled Dune: Messiah. It was supposed to go on floors in September 2025, per a report last month from Budapest Reporter. However, a recent article from a Deadline columnist suggests that Dune: Messiah will go into production earlier, in June 2025.

Dune: Messiah - The Dune threequel will reportedly start filming in June 2025

Dune: Messiah is going to be the third installment of Denis Villeneuve's blockbuster arthouse film. While speaking about this project back in September 2024 with Variety, the filmmaker said,

“First, it’s important that people understand that for me, it was really a diptych."

He further added,

“It was really a pair of movies that will be the adaptation of the first book. That’s done and that’s finished. If I do a third one, which is in the writing process, it’s not like a trilogy. It’s strange to say that, but if I go back there, it’s to do something that feels different and has its own identity.”

Trilogy or not, Dune: Messiah will offer another chance for the audience to see Denis Villeneuve's cinematic interpretation of Frank Herbert's intricate novels. Its logline, per IMDb, currently reads:

"It follows Muad'dib, heir to unimaginable power, as he brings to fruition the ancient scheme to create a superbeing ruler among men, not in the heavens."

This doesn't come as a surprise for those who have seen the second part and witnessed Paul Atreides's character developing into a Muad'dib, with a cult-like following.

The threequel, which will take this journey forward, will go into production in June 2025, according to Deadline columnist in his report from the pre-BAFTA party.
