The buzz around the Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef may have simmered down after the latter’s concert—widely regarded as the former’s funeral—but it still found its way into mentions at the Grammys. One such instance was when John Lennon's son, Sean Ono Lennon, took the stage to accept the Grammy Award for Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package for Mind Games. He said,
"I'm getting older, in my middle age, and just wanted to give some advice to young people out there - never get into a rap battle with Kendrick Lamar"
The clip shared on X (formerly Twitter) by the handle @nfr_podcast has since gone viral:
Naturally, the internet wasted no time in expressing their opinion,
This X user echoed all our thoughts,
"I know Drake wishes he heard this message early 2024 🤣😭"
While this user called it for what it was,
"Seriously good advice"
Some seem to support Drake,
"Drake will diss him next 🤣"
While some had thoughts on what K. Dot would do next,
"Watch Kendrick sample this now 🤣 🤣"
Kendrick Lamar scripts Grammy history
After he swept five Grammy wins, Kendrick Lamar joined an elite club that includes Jay-Z and Kanye West - rappers with 20-plus Grammy victories. Compton rapper's summer hit Not Like Us won in the Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance and Best Music Video categories in the early awards. As the evening progressed, it wasn't long before it was announced that K. Dot had also won the Song of the Year and Record of the Year awards.
With this victory run at the Grammys, Kendrick now has 22 wins with 57 nominations over a career spanning 15+ years.
Not like anyone
Kendrick dropped Not Like Us early May last year amid his feud with Drake. In what proved to be the knockout shot in their battle, this Cali anthem debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 charts shortly after and broke Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus's Old Town Road for most weeks at No. 1 on the Hot Rap Songs chart. Kendrick is now just three wins behind Jay-Z for being the rapper with the most Grammy wins to their name.
Next up, we will see Lamar headline the Super Bowl halftime show next week, alongside guest performer SZA.
