Australian singer Troye Sivan has his way of shutting the rumor mill down. A recent rumor circulating through a blind item suggested that Sivan's main reason for going on tour with Charli XCX was to use Grindr, a popular dating app for gay men. Their joint tour, set to play 22 shows across the country, started on September 14, 2024, with the first show in Detroit, Michigan.

In response to circulating rumor, Sivan shared a TikTok video in which he said straight people were getting way too comfortable and the accusation was ‘genuinely homophobic.’ Troye Sivan responded:

“But to say that I am touring the country to go on Grindr every stop like that’s genuinely homophobic. It’s like a stereotype. Don’t s*x shame me. First of all, I don’t need to travel the country to get laid. I can get laid wherever I want, I can get laid in LA.”

The singer continued:

“I am going on tour because I released an album, because people are buying tickets to come see the show. So, f**k you.”

The Detroit show kicked off Sivan’s performance on Got Me Started, a single from his latest album, Something to Give Each Other. Throughout the show, he mixed in several tracks from the album alongside fan favorites from his earlier work.

Charli XCX energized the crowd with hits from her new album Brat and joined Troye for a few collaborative performances during the set. The Sweat tour will run through October, with a final show in Seattle, Washington, on October 23, 2024.

Troye Sivan’s Something to Give Each Other is his first album in five years.

In the October 11, 2023, episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Sivan said the reason behind the delay in releasing the album was not intentional. He explained that he was working on the album when the pandemic hit, and he shifted his focus to working on a TV show.

Troye Sivan revealed that he spent some time heartbroken after a difficult breakup in 2019. He eventually channeled his emotions into writing his album, feeling proud of the outcome.

“I don’t know who has been through a breakup here, but you know that weird moment where all of a sudden, you are like ‘Wait, I am single’ and it’s like ‘Oh, okay’. And so I started to, I felt I was like re-meeting myself. I started to like do weird things like show up to a house party by myself where I didn’t know anyone, just like excited at the possibilities of life,” Troye Sivan said.

Troye Sivan shared that he wrote part of the album during the pandemic, viewing it more as an ambition than a mere fantasy. During that time, he felt a strong desire for connection and realized the significance of everyone having something to offer one another. He found this idea deeply meaningful and used it as the sentiment for the album.
