Dominique Brown, also known as Domo, succumbed to a medical emergency during a BoxLunch event hosted in LA on December 5. She was 34. Per People Magazine, she suffered an allergic reaction after having consumed something she was initially told was allergen-free.

In the wake of her demise, a GoFundMe page was launched to support all funeral and other related expenses. At the time of writing, over $67,000 has been raised, far more than the $10,000 goal. Over 550 people donated, and Brown's family is organizing the fundraiser. The page reads, in part:

"As we come together to celebrate Dominique’s life, we are asking for support to help cover funeral costs and any unexpected expenses during this time. Your contributions will allow us to honor her in the way she deserves and give our family the space to grieve without added financial stress."

All we know about Dominique Brown as she passes away from an allergic reaction

Dominique Brown is most known as the co-founder of Black Girl Disney. She created the online community in 2018, and her goal was to make the Disney influencer space more friendly and welcoming to people of color. Brown and her co-founder, Mia Von, elucidated their purpose for starting the page on their website:

"As Disney fans in the earlier days of Instagram, we followed every Disney style, blogger, and merch pages we could find. The theme of the majority of the pages… melanin deficient. Like Most things that lack representation, new platforms are created out of a necessity to see yourself. We wanted to create a space where we were not only represented, but CENTERED!"

Disney Influencer Juju Green, better known as Straw Hat Goofy, took to TikTok to pay her respects in a video, saying:

"Just being in the space as Black creators, we won't get that anymore. She embodied everything that you wanted from a friend, [she was] one of the kindest people you will ever meet in your life."

At the event, per People Magazine, someone who knew her on X claimed that as soon as she had the food, she “instantly felt bad” and asked to be escorted to a hospital, saying,

“She was my mom’s best friend of 10 years. She asked if there was peanuts in the food and everyone told her no. When she instantly felt bad she asked someone to take her to the hospital,”

One of the magazine's reporters witnessed someone performing CPR on Dominique Brown before 911 was called. The event manager, BoxLunch, issued a statement to the magazine on December 7:

"We are devastated by the passing of Dominique Brown, a beloved member of the BoxLunch Collective, who suffered a medical emergency at an event hosted by BoxLunch on Thursday in Los Angeles. Our hearts go out to her family and friends, and we will do everything we can to support them and the members of the BoxLunch Collective and our team during this painful time.”

Dominique Brown's brother, Patrick Ramos, took to Instagram to thank her fans for their support:

"Hi everyone, this is @pramos313 – Dominique’s brother. I wanted to take a moment to say thank you to her social media fam for showing her so much love and light. Disney did bring her joy, but it was unparalleled that she found a community who loved her and Disney as much as she did. I will miss my sister and best friend and that infectious smile she always had. Thank you, truly, from the bottom of my heart. ❤️🥺.”

As reported by NPR, Brown had over 40,000 followers combined from her Instagram account and the Black Girl Disney community.
