LaVar Ball, CEO of Big Baller Brand, an American clothing company, in an exclusive essay SLAM Magazine published on March 18, revealed what led to his right foot being amputated, a result of not paying attention to his diabetes.

While recalling the incident of getting his right foot amputated, Ball said:

"I had an infection on my foot that started spreading through my blood due to not paying attention to my diabetes. I ended up having to get my leg amputated. First, they cut off a couple of toes. They they cut off my foot. Then they said, 'We gotta go almost knee high for another surgery.' Three surgeries, and then there were also the blood transfusions. Not one, not two, not three, four different times."

Ball is father to NBAers Lonzo, and LaMelo, as well as hooper and rapper, LiAngelo.

"I must admit my boys kept me rolling"- says LaVar Ball

LaVar Ball while speaking to SLAM Magazine, revealed that he was in a lot of pain during leg amputation, and his sons helped him get through the journey when he wanted to give up.

Ball mentioned that his hospital stay coincided with his son and rapper, LiAngelo Ball's song, Tweaker, going viral. The CEO revealed that the multiple surgeries and blood transfusions brought his morale down and made him think, "Man, just kill me and let me go about my business" and if it is time for him to shut it down. However, after noticing his son's success, LaVar Ball got back on his feet:

"They're like, Dad you're the toughest dude I know. That made me keep going."

LaVar shared a message to readers to lean on family when they are dealing with an illness or something serious like that:

"I'm the Big Baller. I'm hard to kill. But I must admit that my boys kept me rolling."

The CEO also added that watching his kids perform, play, and do their thing, made him feel better and pushed him to do the other surgeries and blood transfusions. He also urged people to take care of their health, especially "black people" since sometimes "it's a little more serious than what you think."

Later in his essay, LaVar Ball expressed that, to him, fatherhood means ensuring his kids are well taken care of when it is time for him to "leave this earth."
