John Cena has been immensely successful as a WWE superstar and movie actor. On the personal front, Cena has been happily married to his second wife, Shay Shariatzadeh, since 2020.

John Cena, who has been married twice, has no kids. The WWE icon has made his stance on parenting clear on different occasions, reiterating how he doesn't want to have children. He appeared on the Club Shay Shay podcast in August 2024, when the host Shannon Sharpe asked him about not having kids. John Cena said:

"I don't want them. I'm still there. I'm 47."

On being asked further about having a "little Johnny or Joanna," the Peacemaker actor said:

"That's great, and that's usually what everyone says, and I gotta tell you, it's not the easiest out there because, you know, a lot of why we're here is to reproduce. I have a certain curiosity about life, and I also know the investment that it takes."

John Cena continued the conversation to explain why he didn't want to become a parent.

Explaining his stance on avoiding parenthood, Cena told Shannon Sharpe:

"My biggest fear is, as someone who's driven — many times stubborn and selfish — I try to approach the world with kindness and curiosity, but I don't think I'm personally ready, nor will I ever be, to invest the time it needs to be a great parent because I want to live life for all it is. And I still have a lot to do. And I still want to do a lot. I have a wonderful partner I do it with. We've had open conversations about this. We share the same values."

The 16-time world champion pro wrestler suggested that it is "a tough subject to talk about" because:

"It immediately puts you in a category, and we can't help but judge. People are… human nature; we're all judgemental. I'd like to believe that I operate under the construct that everyone's okay living their life, and I can tell you this is not like a knee-jerk reaction. I've thought long and hard about this, even at my youngest ages, like 15-16, I remember thinking about it."

John Cena said he is happy with his life. After learning from past relationships, Cena revealed he has had many uncomfortable conversations with his current wife. Despite "disagreements," Cena and Shariatzadeh are in agreement on the issue.

Shay Shariatzadeh, a Canadian engineer of Iranian descent, was the first lady to be linked with John Cena following his break-up with Nikki Bella. However, their first encounter happened by chance in a restaurant. John Cena was a guest on The Howard Stern Show in 2024, when he recalled meeting Shay Shariatzadeh the first time.

On the night of their first meeting, Cena was at a bar in Vancouver, Canada, when Shariatzadeh's friend group approached him for pictures. Cena also clicked a fan selfie with his future girlfriend and wife, before asking her for her number. The DC Universe actor told Stern:

"We have our first fan photo, which we hang proudly where we hang our hats. It's awesome. I asked her for her number, and she gave me her number, and I didn't wait like the two days. I left the restaurant, and on my walk home, I [texted], 'It was so nice to meet you, you're beautiful, I'd like to get to know you more if you have any free time coming up, I'll make time for you.' She's like, 'You want to go out this weekend?' I said, 'Sure.'"

Following their first meeting, John Cena was soon linked to Shay Shariatzadeh in early 2019. After more than a year of dating, the couple tied the knot in October 2020. Since their wedding, Shariatzadeh has maintained privacy around her personal life, but she is often seen supporting Cena at various events.
