Disney’s Snow White may have made some money at the box office, but it’s far from a success. The movie earned $87 million globally in its opening weekend, with only $43 million from the U.S. While these numbers might seem big, they fall short compared to other Disney live-action remakes.
Financially, the film is struggling due to its huge budget of $240–270 million. With such a high cost, it’s unlikely that the movie will make a profit by the time it leaves theaters.
Critics have not been kind to Snow White. On Rotten Tomatoes, it started with a 45% score, which later dropped to 43%. Many critics called it boring or unnecessary.
However, regular viewers seem to enjoy it more, giving it a 74% score. This big gap shows that while critics didn’t like it, some fans still did.
Controversy from the beginning
Even before the movie came out, it sparked debates online. One of the biggest controversies was the casting of Rachel Zegler (who is Colombian-American) as Snow White. Some people didn’t like that Disney changed the character’s traditional look.
The movie also stars:
- Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen
- Andrew Burnap, Ansu Kabia, Jeremy Swift, and Martin Klebba in supporting roles
- Directed by Marc Webb (The Amazing Spider-Man)
While Snow White didn’t completely flop, it’s not a hit for Disney. The movie cost too much, got bad reviews, and didn’t earn enough to make up for its budget. Disney wanted another big success like The Little Mermaid (2023), but right now, Snow White is struggling both financially and critically.
Unless it suddenly becomes much more popular, this remake might end up as a box office disappointment.
