Time to welcome Walt Disney Animation Studios' Moana 2 to the $1 billion club, with it becoming the 56th film to do so and the 32nd entry from Disney on this list. Bob Iger's choice to only release four films has proven to be a wise one; three of them—the other two being Deadpool & Wolverine and Inside Out 2—have passed this threshold. For the time being, Mufasa: The Lion King remains at $600 million.

On the commercial front, it is going well, but things are going south on the legal front. An animator, namely Buck Woodall, is suing Disney for claiming the latest movie has pilfered his concept from a script he submitted to the entertainment giant in 2003. In New Zealand, the company is experiencing difficulties due to disagreements between the country's authorities and the Aotearoa people.

French territory gave the juice Moana 2 needed

44% of the film's revenue came in domestically, as Moana 2 raked in $436.7 million from there, according to Box Office Mojo. Talking about that on a global scale, the movie's French run brought in $60.4 million in revenue, followed by the United Kingdom, Germany, and Italy, grossing $49.6 million, $40.7 million, and $21.3 million, respectively, at the time of writing.

Moving on to its Latin American run that made it $80.6 million, Mexico and Brazil made the creators a healthy $57.7 million collectively. The rest of the region was responsible for $22.9 million. Australia, Japan, and South Korea were the top contributors from the Asia-Pacific region, which was among the pots at the end of the rainbow.

Moana 2 picks up after three years of what happened in the first film; this time Moana needs to raise a submerged island that serves like a center for all the islands and their people. If not done, this connection will be lost and these indigenous people will stay disconnected.

Moana was a success too, but it grossed $687 million against its budget of $150-$175 million. A live-action adaptation of the story is in active development too, where Dwayne Johnson will reprise his role as Maui, for which he said,

"This story is my culture, and this story is emblematic of our people’s grace and warrior strength. I wear this culture proudly on my skin and in my soul, and this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reunite with Maui, inspired by the mana and spirit of my late grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia, is one that runs very deep for me.

Other than Dwayne Johnson, Moana 2 features the voices of Auliʻi Cravalho, Rachel House, Temuera Morrison, and more.
