Disney releases the first official trailer for Lilo & Stitch live-action film

Disney Studios has shared an official trailer for Lilo & Stitch, a live-action reimagining of their 2002 animated film. It will bring back the adorable friendship between the titular characters. Watch the trailer here:

The trailer comes about a month after its Super Bowl teaser launch, which showed Stitch running loose at the big game. "Meega, nala kweesta!" he said while making the stadium staff run after him. Just when they thought they caught him, he ran away to the other end. Now, the trailer offers another glimpse into the adventurous side of this blue koala-like creature.

This time, Stitch is not just destroying a sand castle, pretending to be evil. He faces serious trouble after he escapes his galactic facility. He ends up on the Earth, somewhere close to Lilo's house. Lilo decides to adopt this cute and fluffy creature without realizing its origins. Neither Lilo nor her older sister knows what species he is. That doesn't stop Lilo and Stitch from becoming close friends.

Stitch does not let go of his mischievous side and keeps messing things up for Lilo. Still, Lilo accepts him as her "ohana" (family) member, according to the film's official trailer.

Lilo & Stitch: More details about this Disney film in the wake of its trailer release

Slated for a Memorial Day release, Lilo & Stitch is one of Disney's upcoming projects. Ahead of its theatrical premiere, the studio has released a trailer, which offers a sneak peek into the endearing bond between its titular characters. However, it may not be all fun and games since the space station members keep looking for him on Earth.

The film's official logline reads,

"A live-action reimagining of Disney’s 2002 animated classic, “Lilo & Stitch” is the wildly funny and touching story of a lonely Hawaiian girl and the fugitive alien who helps to mend her broken family."

Dean Fleischer Camp has directed this film based on the screenplay by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright and Mike Van Waes. Fleischer Camp previously helmed Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, an animated film, which was picked up by A24 Studios for distribution and nominated for an Academy Award.

The film stars Maia Kealoha in the central role of Lilo while Chris Sanders voices Stitch. Sydney Agudong plays Nani, Lilo's elder sister and her guardian. The rest of the cast includes Zach Galifianakis, Hannah Waddingham, Courtney B. Vance, Billy Magnussen, and Tia Carrere.

Lilo & Stitch is scheduled to be out in the US theaters on May 23.
