Disney has revealed a trailer for Freakier Friday. It brings Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan back together for a body-swapping adventure. It is a much-anticipated sequel to their 2003 film, Freaky Friday. The new trailer shows things getting freakier for this mother-daughter duo in ways they might not have thought of.
Jordan Weiss penned the film's screenplay and Nisha Ganatra (Late Night, Cake) directed it. The film is scheduled to be released in the US theaters by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures in a few months.
Besides Curtis and Lohan, Chad Michael Murray, Mark Harmon, and Christina Vidal Mitchell will be some of the stars reprising their roles. Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, and Manny Jacinto will join the cast.
What does the Freakier Friday trailer have in store for us?
The Freakier Friday trailer shows Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan returning as Tess and Anna Coleman respectively. This time, they don't swap bodies with each other, but with Anna's teenage daughter and her soon-to-be stepdaughter. So, in this double-swap situation, the four of them find themselves in all sorts of trouble.
The 2003 film showed Anna and Tess trying to make peace with the fact that they have switched bodies. They tried their best to make it seem convincing to others. Of course that wasn't easy since Anna was a teenager at the time. So, she was frustrated with her mother as a conventional teenager does.
Freakier Friday takes it to a whole other level. Anna and Tess are both adults, but Anna's daughters—Julia and Sophia are teens. They are in the place where Anna was before. So, Anna and Tess become somewhat of a team to guide the kids in the right direction. They already have had a similar experience. So, what could go wrong? The trailer suggests that it won't be a bed of roses.
The trailer offers many details that the fans would like to know about the film. Its official plot synopsis reads:
"Years after Tess and Anna endured an identity crisis, Anna now has a daughter and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might strike twice."
Good Place star, Manny Jacinto, will play Anna's new boyfriend and Sophia's father, Eric. Chad Michael Murray will also appear as Anna's former boyfriend, Jake.
Freakier Friday is slated to be theatrically released in the United States on August 8, 2025.
