Attorney Tony Buzbee is representing the plaintiff "Jane Doe" who accused rapper Shawn Corey Carter, aka Jay-Z, of s*xually assaulting her with Sean Diddy Combs during an MTV afterparty in 2000. The accuser was 13 years old when the incident happened. Although the lawsuit was initially filed in October 2024, accusing only Combs, it was refiled on December 8, 2024, after including Jay-Z.
Carter responded to the allegation, saying it was a blackmail attempt from Tony Buzbee, who previously served as a Recon Marine officer as per his official website txattorneys.com. He also claimed this was a pattern of tactics the lawyer had used previously. In his statement, the rapper said,
āThese allegations are so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one!! Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree?ā

āYou have made a terrible error in judgement thinking that all ācelebritiesā are the same. Iām not from your world. Iām a young man who made it out of the project of Brooklyn. We donāt play these types of games. We have very strict codes and honor.ā
Responding to Jay-Zās statement, Tony Buzbee shared an X post on December 9, 2024, saying his firm sent a demand letter to him and that Jane Doe had not expected a penny in return but a confidential mediation. He wrote,
āWhat he fails to say in his recent statement is my firm sent his lawyer a demand letter on behalf of an alleged victim and that victim never demanded a penny from him. Instead, she only sought a confidential mediation. Since I sent the letter on her behalf, Mr. Carter has not only sued me, but he has tried to bully and harass me and this plaintiff.ā
