A viral Facebook post recently claimed that Taylor Swift announced that she would leave Canada and never come back to the US. The quote attributed to Swift read:
"I’m moving to Canada and never coming back to the States. I don’t want to breathe the same air as that jerk."
The post included a photo of Swift next to Elon Musk, implying that he was the “jerk” that she had alluded to. The post went viral, racking up more than 50,000 likes. But the story seems to have been completely made up, with no credible outlet confirming the statements.
There is no credible evidence that Taylor Swift ever said such a thing. The article linked to the Facebook post was also full of contradictions and inaccuracies, including an assertion that she had also decided to "return to America."
Swift’s Eras Tour ended in December 2024, not March 2025 as the post suggested, raising more doubts about the authenticity of the quote.
This is hardly the first time that Swift has been the focus of a political rumor. False claims spread earlier in 2024 saying Taylor Swift and her NFL boyfriend, Travis Kelce, would flee the US if Donald Trump was re-elected. Fact-checking sites like Snopes and Reuters looked into these rumors and found them to be false.
More about Elon Musk’s past controversial comments at Taylor Swift
Last year Elon Musk made headlines for a statement he directed at Taylor Swift after she endorsed Kamala Harris for president.
"Fine Taylor … you win … I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life"
The comment was immediately derided as out of the line, with many calling Musk a sexual harasser. According to Variety, critics called the post “creepy,” pointing out that Swift has never publicly acknowledged Musk or had any relation to him. The tech billionaire Elon Musk has 12 children and is currently embroiled in a custody battle with former partner Grimes over three children.
Despite the backlash Musk faced, Swift has not publicly responded to his comment, and there’s no indication that it has influenced her to leave the country.
Although Taylor Swift isn’t vacationing in Canada, she and Kelce have been spending some quality time together in Montana. An insider reported to Radar Online that the couples were in their “happy place.”
A source told Us Weekly that, fresh off their busy schedule of the Eras Tour and the Super Bowl, Swift and Travis Kelce wanted a more down-to-earth and low-key way of life. Another insider confirmed this, adding that the couple simply “needed some personal time.”
