Rapper NLE Choppa, aka Bryson LaShun Potts, wrote a children’s book named Cricket Stop Cricking, but it is yet to be released. However, on April 16, 2025, he held a reading session of his book at Porter-Leath Preschool, based in South Memphis. The book is planned to be released in August 2025. According to Fox 13, he said:

“One thing I realize with children's movies and children's books. It's a, it's a message in there. It is so clear and so easy to come across.”

NLE Choppa shared that his book was meant to teach young children an important and easy-to-understand message. He explained that stories like this could help kids become more open to learning.

The rapper also believed the main takeaway was about being kind to others and paying attention to signs, which he felt could sometimes be messages from a higher power.

Meanwhile, speaking to the media outlet, the rapper mentioned that the idea for his book came to him while he was working on a song. He shared that the book would also highlight the value of staying humble.

NLE Choppa felt that even though he was successful beyond his personal life, he always made an effort to be a positive and humble role model for kids in Memphis, Tennessee. According to Complex, he said:

“I think books like this can open a palette to becoming open to learning things of that nature. The moral of the story is to be kind to other people.”

NLE Choppa supported reading challenges and programs across schools

In an interview with VIBE Magazine in 2024, the interviewer asked how he found creative inspiration to write a book specifically for kids. NLE Choppa explained that it came from understanding what truly mattered to him, motivating and uplifting the younger generation.

He shared that he took the time to write the book himself, without letting anyone influence his vision, and trusted his instincts throughout the process. He also mentioned a reading challenge he organized for kids in Memphis to encourage them to improve their literacy.

Choppa believed that doing something small like that could shift their attitude about school and make them more eager to learn subjects like math and science.

In 2022, NLE Choppa sat down with Posted On The Corner, where he was asked about his plans for the reading programs. Choppa talked about how he made it a goal to bring reading programs into as many schools as possible because he saw the powerful impact it had.

In one case, he said a school went from performing poorly to being recognized as a top school after he introduced a reading challenge. He noticed students were reading while walking in line, in the restroom, or even during car rides to school. NLE Choppa had challenged them to read 100,000 words, and many exceeded that by reaching a million words by the end of the year.

One school, without any set target, ended up reading 27 million words altogether. While he acknowledged his music might not always be uplifting, he wanted to balance that out by being a good influence through his real-life actions, especially when helping kids understand the difference between entertainment and real-life guidance.
