No, Hayden Christensen didn’t quit Hollywood; he was just away for a while. The Star Wars actor was a flashlight for paparazzi but mostly stayed in the shadows during the last decade.

Fan circles even started speculating about his silent quitting. In fact, Christensen simply transitioned into his own niche in the industry, where there are no red carpets and no press conferences.

By the way, he has begun to thrive in the audience’s sight, entering a special, though relatively short, moment of popularity—by opening a week-long meeting with his fans at the George R. Brown Convention Center, from June 20 to 22, as part of Houston’s Comicpalooza 2025.

So, what has he been up to—and why did he scale back on acting? Here's what we know.

Hayden Christensen gained international popularity through his Anakin Skywalker role in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002) and Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005). Nevertheless, after his experience with Star Wars, Christensen not only quit acting—he actually withdrew from public life altogether.

In an article published in The Los Angeles Times in 2015, Christensen looked back and explained the reasons for his voluntary exile from the movie industry:

“I guess I felt like I had this great thing in Star Wars, and I didn’t want to go back to auditioning,” he said. “I didn’t feel like I fit into the Hollywood scene.”

Right after wrapping up the prequels, he bought a farm in Ontario, Canada, where he spent his time on agriculture, home renovation, and living a slow-paced life. He was quoted as saying to The Toronto Star in a 2008 interview:

“I’ve always loved nature. I wanted a place where I could escape. The farm is my sanctuary.”

Acknowledging that he has never officially retired, Christensen confessed in a 2022 interview with Vanity Fair that his recent roles were mostly ones he chose for himself.

“It wasn’t a conscious decision to stop acting, but I definitely stepped away for a while,” he said. “I wanted to take time to be a dad, to do some soul-searching, and to live outside of the industry.”

Hayden Christensen and Rachel Bilson have a daughter named Briar Rose, who was born in 2014. Continuing in the Vanity Fair interview, he remarked:

“My priorities shifted. Fatherhood changed everything.”

Despite being careful with the roles he took, Christensen never fully left the industry. Specifically, through the Star Wars universe, he has continued working and has been warmly received. Check out his last five projects:

  1. Ahsoka (2023) – Disney+ series, reprising Anakin Skywalker
  2. Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022) – Disney+ limited series as Darth Vader/Anakin
  3. The Last Man (2019) – Independent sci-fi drama
  4. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019) – Voice cameo as Anakin
  5. Little Italy (2018) – Romantic comedy alongside Emma Roberts

The actor’s reprise of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Disney+ series represented his first Star Wars movie role in more than 15 years and was very well received by the fans. In the press junket for Obi-Wan Kenobi, Christensen shared with Entertainment Weekly:

“It felt amazing to come back to this character and explore him further. It was emotional. It felt like coming home.”

Despite staying primarily on his Ontario farm, which he bought in the mid-2000s, Christensen also keeps a place in Los Angeles for work-related situations and trips. He is more of an introvert and has been careful to maintain his privacy.

It was reported in 2022 that he was almost invisible to the public, as Vanity Fair mentioned he lived "off the grid" while restoring tractors and tending to animals on his land.

Back in the spotlight at Comicpalooza 2025

This year, Christensen is again the talk of many—this time because of the news of his appearance at Comicpalooza 2025. He will be one of the featured personalities at the three-day event, appearing alongside celebrities like Sosie Bacon, Patton Oswalt, Adam Savage, Alicia Witt, and WWE legends such as Lisa Marie Varon and Torrie Wilson.

Chief Strategy Officer of Comicpalooza, Aimée McCurtain, said in a press release:

“Our first round of guest announcements covers a wide range of fandoms and is indicative of the diverse interests of Comicpalooza attendees. From rising stars like Sosie Bacon to beloved luminaries like Hayden Christensen, we are thrilled to bring these icons to Houston to meet their devoted Space City fans.”

According to her, fans will get a chance to meet the star, take photos together, and ask questions during Q&A sessions.

Still here, just selective

So, did Hayden Christensen leave Hollywood completely? No, he did not. Rather, he stepped away by choice, preferring to walk the path of balance instead of being overly consumed by work.

His presence may not be as intensive as before, but his recent appearances in the Star Wars franchise and participation in fan conventions like Comicpalooza make it clear that his love for acting—and his bond with fans—are very much alive.

It seems Christensen is not done playing a role in the Star Wars saga either, if Ahsoka and Obi-Wan Kenobi are any indication. His story in that galaxy far, far away might be far from finished.
