Amanda Bynes and Channing Tatum are popular for the on-screen chemistry they shared in the 2006 teen comedy, She’s the Man. The film, which is a modern-day adaptation of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, stars Bynes as Viola, a teenager who dresses as her twin brother, so she can be on a boys’ soccer team. In the process, she falls for her roommate, played by Tatum.

The film not only kick-started Tatum’s career to stardom, but also sparked rumors of romance between the two leads of the movie.

According to ScreenRant, Speculation about a romance between the two started when sections of the paparazzi released photos of Amanda Bynes and Channing Tatum in between shots.

However, no official confirmation regarding their alleged relationship has been issued from either side. Most evidence points to their real-life romance being confined to the movie set, and most of the offscreen photos likely come from the filming for She’s the Man.

In a 2023 interview with E! News, Andy Fickman, who directed the film, commented on the rumors. While he admitted that “everyone had a crush on Channing,” he didn’t see any serious sparks flying behind the scenes. According to The List, Fickman said during the interview:

"Everybody had a crush on Channing! I think movies where the chemistry is there, you can't fake that chemistry on screen."

Amanda Bynes reportedly also helped launch Tatum’s career. According to People, in a 2018 interview with Paper, Bynes said she advocated for Tatum to be cast in She’s the Man, despite producers being hesitant due to his age and fame. She said:

"He’d just done a Mountain Dew commercial and I was like, ‘This guy’s a star — every girl will love him!’ But [the producers] were like, ‘He’s so much older than all of you!’ And I was like, ‘It doesn’t matter! Trust me!’ "
