Adrien Brody is slated to walk the red carpet at this year's Oscars, and fans are revisiting his infamous kiss with Halle Berry on stage at the 2003 Oscars event.

At the time, seconds after he won an award for Best Actor for his role in The Pianist, he spontaneously took the actress into his arms and kissed her. While at the time, it was viewed as a passionate moment, over the years, people have begun calling him out. Some say he didn't give Berry any time to consent to the kiss, seeing as how spur-of-the-moment it was.

The actor has never explicitly apologised for his actions, though just earlier in February, he sat down for an interview with Variety, where he reflected on his critics' views:

“We live in a very conscious time, which is a wonderful thing,” he said. “And nothing that I ever do or have done or would’ve done is ever done with the intention of making anyone feel bad.”

Back in 2017, Halle Berry conceded to being blindsided by the kiss, though she acknowledged the thrill that came with winning an Oscar and how it could have impacted Adrien Brody’s judgment.

Moments after the kiss, Adrien Brody jokingly said in his acceptance speech, "I bet they didn't tell you that was in the gift bag." As for Berry, who was seemingly caught off guard, she just wiped her lips.

Speaking with Andy Cohen on his show, Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, she said she “knew nothing about” the kiss until it was happening to her.

Reflecting on how she reacted, she said:

“No! That was not planned! I knew nothing about it. I was like, 'what the f— is happening, right now?' That is what was going through my mind.” She added, “Because I was there the year before and I know the feeling of being out of your body, I just f*cking went with it.”

However, there appears to be no bad blood between the two, as we saw this January, when Halle Berry congratulated Adrien Brody for winning a Golden Globe.

"Congratulations my friend. You are truly one of one!" she commented on one of Brody's Instagram posts.

This year's Oscars is slated to take place on Monday, March 3. It will be held at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood and will honor all the movies that came out in 2024.
