Descendants announces a 5th movie with new characters 

Disney is back with another installment in the Descendants series as the franchise is set to return for another addition to its magical world, followed by Descendants: The Rise of Red, which came out in 2024.

Malia Baker and Kylie Cantrall will return to their roles as Princess Chloe and Princess Red, the children of Cinderella and the Queen of Hearts. Apart from them, Liamani Segura is joining as Red' sister Pink; Brendon Tremblay as Max Hatter, Alexandro Byrd as Luis Madrigal, and Kiara Romero as Hazel Hook.

No official title has been decided on as of now, and production is set to start soon. Kimmy Gatewood will sit in the director's chair as Tamara Chestna is behind the script.

Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, spoke about the happy news and told Deadline,

“The love for the ‘Descendants’ franchise runs deep, and the incredible response to ‘Descendants: The Rise of Red’ last year proved just how much fans are invested in these characters and their stories. Our next movie will build on that legacy and deliver even more of the magic, music and heart that make ‘Descendants’ so special — brought to life by an amazing cast and creative team who continue to elevate this world in new and exciting ways.”

The events in the film will follow the consequences of Chloe and Red after they return from time travel and are likely to explore the negative impact of time-shifting on realities.

What was Descendants: The Rise of Red about?

The musical comedy franchise, renowned for its themes of fantasy and magic, originally starred Dove Cameron, Cameron Boyce, Sofia Carson, and Booboo Stewart, and is based on Disney's animated classics of the same name. The franchise follows the characters as they get invited to Auradon by Belle and Beast's son.

The official tagline of the film reads,

"In order to prevent an impending coup, they must join forces to travel back in time, via a magical pocket watch created by the Mad Hatter's son, to stop an event that would lead to grave consequences."

The film centers around Red, the daughter of Alice from Alice in Wonderland, and Chloe, who is Cinderella's daughter as they embark on a time-traveling journey. It's noted for its music, original songs, themes of magic and fantasy, and for creating spin-offs of the original Disney Princesses.

Descendants: The Rise of Red ends with a cliffhanger, which leaves fans with anticipation for the next film's franchise and how Chloe and Red's adventures of time-traveling will alter the events.
