The third installment of Denis Villeneuve's Dune series, Dune: Messiah, is set to go on floors in September 2025, as per Budapest Reporter. After the global success of Dune (2021) and Dune: Part Two (2024), the third and the final part of the film franchise is reportedly scheduled to release on December, 18, 2026.

Dune: Messiah will be based on Frank Herbert's 1969 sci-fi novel, Dune Messiah, and will reportedly continue their association with the principle shooting location, Origo Film Studios, in Hungary, and the production company, Legendary Entertainment.

Dune: Messiah will continue with the journey of the protagonist, Timothée Chalamet's Paul Atreides, a.k.a the Muad'dib, a venerated monarch, and his struggle with the power and the complex politics. The upcoming film will look deeper into the personal trials and tribulations of Paul and his love interest Chani (Zendaya), as threat befalls upon her and their expected child. The film will reportedly also delve into the aftermath of the The Atreides War, and we will witness a change in time period, as this installment will take the narrative several years later.

The cinematic language of Dune: Messiah will be distinct than the previous installments, director Denis Villeneuve told Vanity Fair. He said Dune: Messiah is not a part of a 'trilogy', but the film will have a completely separate voice of its own. The filmmaker said:

The thing is, first, it’s really important that people understand for me, it was really a diptych, it was two movies, a pair of movies that will be the adaptation of the first book. So that’s done, that’s finished. So, if I do a third one, which is in the writing process, I will say that, for me, it’s a different object. It’s not like a trilogy almost, it’s strange to say, but I really want to — if I go back there — to do something that feels different and has its own identity. Let’s say for me, ’Dune,’ in a way, is finished. And ‘Dune: Messiah’ will be something new that I will approach with its own different cinematic philosophy.

Who all shall we see this time in Dune: Messiah?

Along with the previous star cast comprising Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, we have Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan and Anya-Taylor Joy as Alia Atreides joining the star cast, per reports, but with more distinguished roles in Dune: Messiah.
