It's official. Coyote Vs. Acme finally has a new home with Ketchup Entertainment, which has acquired the film from Warner Bros. Discovery. Our previous report revealed that the independent studio was in talks with Warner Bros about a deal for worldwide rights. The sale has been finalized to bring it to the big screen.
After the official announcement, Ketchup Entertainment CEO Gareth West shared a statement, which said,
“We’re thrilled to have made a deal with Warner Bros. Pictures to bring this film to audiences worldwide. Coyote vs. Acme is a perfect blend of nostalgia and modern storytelling, capturing the essence of the beloved Looney Tunes characters while introducing them to a new generation. We believe it will resonate with both longtime fans and newcomers alike.”
This is the second acquisition from Ketchup Entertainment of a Looney Tunes character-based project. They recently rescued The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie from the same Hollywood studio.
What is Coyote Vs. Acme about? Details revealed about this Looney Tunes-based movie
Coyote Vs. Acme is a live-action / animation hybrid film, which was infamously scrapped by Warner Bros. Discovery. Based on Ian Frazier's The New Yorker humorous article, the film follows Wile E. Coyote (the Looney Tunes character) filing a case against Acme corporation products for failing him in his pursuit of Roadrunner (Coyote's arch-nemesis).
Coyote Vs. Acme stars SNL alumnus Will Forte as the billboard lawyer Coyote hires to file his case. John Cena stars as Roadrunner's former boss. Lana Condor (To All the Boys I've Loved Before) and Tone Bell (Survival of the Thickest) also co-star.
Oscar-nominated Samy Burch (May December) wrote the film's screenplay from a story she co-wrote with DC's co-boss James Gunn and Jeremy Slater (Mortal Kombat 2).
Coyote Vs. Acme was shelved in 2023 by the famed Hollywood studio, which led to outrage on social media. Many filmmakers and artists voiced their concerns, including Phil Lord (The Lego Movie). Coyote Vs. Acme director Dave Green also wrote an X post, sharing his disappointment about this update. He ended it by saying,
"I am beyond proud of the final product, and beyond devastated by WB’s decision. But in the spirit of Wile E. Coyote, resilience and persistence win the day.”
Ketchup Entertainment has taken a step to let Green's film see the light of day.
Coyote Vs Acme is expected to hit the theaters in 2026.
