Vin Diesel drops a hint about Groot spin-off
Recently, Vin Diesel took to Instagram to share an update about his work on Instagram. Sharing stills from the Fast and the Furious franchise, the actor said he is back to work after the Oscars. In the first paragraph, he then pivoted to saying that Disney wants their own Planet X, which means there might be a film where Groot returns to his home planet. He wrote,
“Disney wants their Planet X! Which some say is Marvel’s most anticipated movie, haha. The film where Groot returns to his home planet.”
While nothing has been confirmed yet, this bit by the actor is enough to generate anticipation among fans who want to see their beloved character get its film. Diesel voiced the animated character in the 2014 film Guardians of the Galaxy, its sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Avengers: Infinity War, and 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. Subsequently, the character also appeared in Thor: Love and Thunder and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
The character eventually got his series on Disney+, I Am Groot. Diesel voiced the baby version in this series and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. In a 2014 interview with The Guardian, Diesel discussed voicing the character who says only one thing.
"It appealed to the thespian in me. You're talking about a very challenging character to pull off. How could you really create a whole character with three words? To really bring the emotion and chart the arc. I guess I never really realised how much I did always love trees."
Diesel last appeared in the 2023 action thriller Fast X, which he also produced. He will be next seen in Fast X2, reportedly concluding the long-running Fast and the Furious franchise.
