It took Marvel Studios more than five hours to reveal the cast of its most anticipated blockbuster, Avengers Doomsday, leaving fans both thrilled and frustrated.
The two-hour event, starting at 8 a.m. PT, slowly revealed 27 cast members in a sequence in which their long row of chairs were panned across, each with the name of a returning or new MCU actor. Some found the buildup exciting, but others thought that the process had taken too long.
The slow start of the announcement left many fans frustrated. Reactions on social media went from excitement about specific cast reveals to complaints about the long runtime. Talking about the Avengers Doomsday cast reveal one fan wrote:
"Marvel made y’all wait 4 hours to reveal the cast, which could have been done in 4 minutes if someone would have just wrote a press release."
"Wasting FIVE AND A HALF HOURS to announce cast is some of the most disrespectful s**t you can ever do to your audience," said one X user.
"328 minutes to announce the cast of a movie smh. Abolish Marvel," remarked another user.
"This is probably the worst thing Marvel has done and I’m an apologist," commented a fan.
"Waiting 10 minutes for each character is crazy Marvel never do this again," said an internet user.
"Who is responsible for this slow reveal? Nobody has time in the middle of the day to stare at a chair for 15 minutes," commented another.
On the other hand few people enjoyed the slow reveal of the cast, pointing out the fact that even though it was long, the reveal garnered many viewers throughout the stream.
"Say what y'all want, but Marvel Studios had 10 million people watching cast announcements for over 5 hours," said one fan.
"One thing, despite not getting excited by this, it does show how much hold the MCU/Marvel still has that people were sitting around watching a cast reveal," wrote a X user.
