Conclave: The Golden Globe-winning political thriller touches $100 million BO mark

Conclave remains one of the most well-received films of 2024. The political thriller is helmed by Edward Berger and written by Peter Straughan. It was released on October 25, 2024, by Focus Features. The film revolves around a cardinal named Thomas Lawrence who conducts a conclave to elect their next pope after the current one dies.

Conclave premiered at the 2024 Telluride Film Festival and was well-received; AFI and the National Board of Review featured it in their top 10 lists. This Ralph Fiennes starrer continues to mint a lot of money having reached the $100 million mark.

Variety has reported that the film will reach the $100 million mark at the box office globally. The announcement was made by FilmNation Entertainment, the producer and international distributor. They stated that the film has minuted $98.5 million. So it's obvious that the film to gross triple digit very soon. It's a major victory for the film as it hints that a wider audience has loved it.

Out of the 98 million figure, $32.2 million has come from North America while the other $66.3 million is from the international circuit. Made on a production budget of $20 million, the film has already become a major commercial success.

It is slated to be released in Asian countries like Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan. In a statement, the film's director Edward Berger said:

“This is such a personal film for me, so to hear how it has connected with and entertained so many movie lovers around the world makes me very happy. I am very grateful to our incredible partners releasing ‘Conclave’ who have helped this film reach its utmost potential.”

Glen Basner, who is the CEO of FilmNation Entertainment, also released a statement.

“Distributors have been telling us what their audiences want, and we have been listening. Moviegoers want a compelling and entertaining experience at the cinema, and audiences are more discerning than ever. Conclave is the perfect storm of great directing, writing and acting and shows us how the independent model works.”

Besides its commercial success, the film has also received several accolades. This includes eight nominations at the Academy Awards, 12 nominations at the British Academy Film Award, and six at the Golden Globe.

The cast members of the film include Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, and Lucian Msamati among others.
