People have enjoyed Companion's dark comedy a lot in the cinemas and now it's time for them to enjoy it in the comfort of their homes. The film released on January 31, 2025, was received well with the audience as the scores reflect. Currently, that's 94% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing.

Just today, it was released for streaming on Prime Video and Apple TV but that's not it. It's also coming to 4K Ultra, Blu-ray, and DVD on April 11, 2025. The film starring The Boys' Jack Quaid, Yellowjackets' Sophie Thatcher, Euphoria's Lukas Gage, and more was a commercial success too, raking in $33 million against a $10 million budget.

With Companion's digital release comes a concern

Companion sure is a worthy watch and it's great that the digital streaming platforms have made it easier for the distributors and audiences to connect. But then some believe that digital releases may end up killing theaters.

A filmmaker and critic raised this issue on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He wrote,

"The shrinking gap between movies playing in theaters to being available at home is gonna be what ends up killing theaters."

It wasn't late as the fans began hopping on the bandwagon. One of them explained why things were great back in the day. She explains,

"I usually received a selection of my favorites of the year for Xmas on DVD…that 90 day min gap was sacred."

Some were disappointed as Companion didn't even land in theaters around their region and it's coming to streaming platforms already. This one fan said,

"This did not even come out in a theater near me, much less in my town. I was so upset and now it’s going straight to streaming?"

That is understandable, especially for the 90s kids who are witnessing this digital shift.

If we go by the critics, that makes Companion much more fun if watched on the big screen. SlashFilm's Chris Evangelista called it the first great film of the year. Another critic namely Lauren Veneziani, praised the performances of the lead actors, especially Jack Quaid, though it's Sophie Thatcher who actually stole the show.

It tells a story about a group of friends visiting another friend's home but a couple of them have some diabolical plans. It is soon revealed that Sophie Thatcher's Iris is in reality a companion robot and Jack Quaid's Josh alongside Megan Suri's Kat is planning a kill and stealing a stash of cash hidden in the house.

Harvey Guillen and Rupert Friend are in the film too, where the latter has quite a short appearance in there.

Companion is currently available to stream on Apple TV and Amazon Video.
