Community star Joel McHale lands a new role in Scream 7, Find out what

Joel McHale, aka Community's Jeff Winger, is set to star as Sidney Prescott's husband in the upcoming Scream 7.

Scream 7 is the latest chapter from this horrifying slasher film series. It brings Neve Campbell back to the franchise, who is supposed to reprise her role as Sidney Prescott.

After the announcement of her return, the franchise fans were looking forward to the remaining cast. Many fans reportedly thought Patrick Dempsey, who played her husband, Detective Mark Kincaid in Scream 3 (2000), would return this time. However, Joel McHale is set to play her husband, Mark Evans, in the upcoming film.

The film comes after the massive success of Scream VI, starring Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera in the central roles. It became the highest-grossing film in the franchise and received mostly positive reviews.

This time, neither the stars nor the directors, Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, will return to helm this project. Instead, it will be directed by Kevin Williamson, who penned the 1996 film's script. Guy Busick, who co-wrote the 2022 and the 2023 films, is writing the screenplay for the seventh installment of this franchise.

Joel McHale recently became a point of discussion after his role in Hulu's The Bear as a disdainful head chef that Carmy Berzatto had the misfortune of working under. Now, he is about to return to the big screens as Mark Evans. He will play Neve Campbell's iconic character's husband in this classic slasher film series.

While Campbell is going to make a comeback, Courtney Cox and Mason Gooding will also return to the franchise as Gale Weathers and Chad Meeks-Martin, respectively, who were also present in the successful 2023 film. Joel McHale becomes the latest addition to the cast.

While the plot has not been disclosed yet, the cast is enough for the franchise fans to look forward to this 2026 release. The movie will feature a bunch of new, talented actors such as Isabel May (1923), Mckenna Grace (Gifted), Asa Germann (Gen V), Anna Camp (Pitch Perfect), Celeste O’Connor (Madame Web), and Sam Rechner (The Fablemans). May is supposed to play Sydney's daughter. Joel McHale's arrival in the cast marks another reason to be amped up for this project.

Spyglass Media Group is returning as this franchise's producer for the film, which will be distributed by Paramount Pictures. Scream 7 is scheduled to be released in theaters on February 27, 2026, in the United States.
