Rapper Ice Spice was booed off stage for being over 30 minutes late for her much-anticipated New Year's Eve performance at Queensland, Australia's Wildlands Festival. Five minutes into her headline act, the event organizers switched off Spice's microphone to bring on stage the next artist scheduled to perform.
The stage was cleared, but Spice continued to perform and nothing could be heard. Finally, after the crowd started booing, the Deli singer paced on the stage for a while before flashing the peace sign and getting off the stage without addressing the fans.
Her atitude angered some fans who had reportedly traveled up to to six hours and had spent over $350 per ticket for the show. Angry fans and netizens took to X to comment and express their disappointment, with many calling her performances "subpar." Others noted that being 20 to 30 minutes late is not much, and many other artistes have made them wait for hours.
Here are a few reactions on X, after Ice Spice's no-show:
"I don’t feel bad cause why tf you buying ice spice tickets in 2025," an X user wrote
"I want to start off by saying I am not an Ice Spice hater by any means. But the falloff has been very sad to see." - another user mentioned
"In another country, the artiste will come hours late and still match his boots on the head of the fan and they will still defend him." - a user mentioned
Wildlands Festival issues statement on Ice Spice's late arrival
Following the backlash Ice Spice received for arriving late at her New Year's Eve Performance in Wildlands Festival, the organizers issued an Instagram statement:
"We understand that Ice Spice's delayed arrival caused some disappointment. Managing a stacked festival means that we have to be extremely firm with set times. We had a strict curfew of 12:30 and need to ensure that the final act went on stage on time, so everyone could enjoy the New Year's Eve countdown."
Benton Larney, Gold Coast music podcaster and journalist who was in the audience for Ice Spice's performance, told The Guardian that the organizers gave the rapper an "extra minute", adding you could hear a "collective sigh from the crowd" when the rapper's mic was switched off.
Larney mentioned that Spice gave the impression "she didn't want to be there," and the audience got to hear just a couple of songs although they had waited for a while.
