Mortal Kombat 2 will hit the theaters in the coming months. Ahead of its release, the New Line Cinema has revealed an exclusive peek into the world of this video game adaptation at 2025 CinemaCon.
The latest film brings The Boys star Karl Urban as Johnny Cage. Considering the popularity of Cage's character, the game's fans must have been all geared up to see how Karl Urban fits into this equation. The new clip offers them some relief.
Although brief, the clip showed Johnny Cage boasting his sunglasses and saying,
“I am Johnny f***ing Cage. It’s showtime.”
That sums up much of what happens in the clip shared at the CinemaCon. However, it might have been enough for the fans to be excited about the latest project from this franchise. Mortal Kombat 2 serves as a sequel to the 2021 movie that followed MMA fighter Cole Young to prevent the Earth from being defeated by the Outworld.
The new chapter will take place shortly after the events of the first one, which ended with Cole going to Hollywood. That is potentially where he finds Johnny Cage. Now, it will be interesting to see how Karl Urban brings Cage's eccentric character to life and becomes a new hope for the Earth.
Until then, the fans can rest their hopes on the shoulders of New Lines Cinema chief Richard Brenner. He introduced the clip at the CinemaCon and said,
“Expect amazing fights, epic battles, and a few fatalities.”
