Governor Gavin Newsom is pushing back on President Donald Trump's claims that he is responsible for the LA wildfires that have claimed the lives of at least five people.
In an interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper, standing in front of a raging fire, Newsom accused Trump of politicizing the harrowing situation. When Cooper asked Newsom about what he had to say in response to Trump's remarks, the latter responded:
"One can't even respond to it. People are literally fleeing. People have lost their lives, kids lost their schools. Families completely torn asunder. Churches burned down. This guy wanted to politicize it."
Governor Gavin Newsom responds to Trump's claims that he is responsible for the fires, says he is holding back on what he wants to say
Governor Gavin Newsom's tirade didn't end there, though, as he went on:
"I have a lot of thoughts and I know what I want to say. I won't. I stood next to a President of the United States of America today, and I was proud to be with Joe Biden, and he had the backs of every single person in this community. He didn't play politics, didn't try to divide any of us."
In a Truth Social post this Wednesday, the president-elect referred to Newsom as "Gavin Newscum," noting that he was focusing on the wrong things like "worthless fish" instead of the lives of the Golden State. Read his lengthy rant below:
"Governor Gavin Newscum refused to sign the water restoration declaration put before him that would have allowed millions of gallons of water, from excess rain and snow melt from the North, to flow daily into many parts of California, including the areas that are currently burning in a virtually apocalyptic way. He wanted to protect an essentially worthless fish called a smelt, by giving it less water (it didn’t work!), but didn’t care about the people of California. Now the ultimate price is being paid. I will demand that this incompetent governor allow beautiful, clean, fresh water to FLOW INTO CALIFORNIA! He is the blame for this. On top of it all, no water for fire hydrants, not firefighting planes. A true disaster!"
Trump later took to social media to call on Gavin Newsom to resign, noting that the fires were “all his fault.” However, KCRA has since dubbed Trump's claims about the "water restoration declaration" were "false," while Newsom's office concurred, noting that such a document doesn't even exist.
During the same interview, Gavin Newsom also called on all the local officials to look into the cause behind the hydrants in Los Angeles running dry, leaving firefighters without the necessary means to put out the raging fires that have been tearing down homes since Tuesday.
