The next Christopher Nolan project gets further development and it is called The Odyssey. Universal took to their X (formerly Twitter) handle to share the latest information regarding the upcoming film. It will be an adaptation of the Greek poem of the same name crafted by Homer around the 8th century BC.
It will star Tom Holland, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, and more. The Spider-Man lead will be working for the first time with Nolan, who also worked with the Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr. in his last film, Oppenheimer. The movie won seven Academy Awards.
Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey will be shot globally
Universal Pictures has cleared that the film will be shot globally and will use the latest technology in it. The post reads,
"Christopher Nolan’s next film ‘The Odyssey’ is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology."
Homer's poem is a tale of Odysseus' return after the Trojan War. During his journey, the character has some interesting encounters with entities like Calypso, Poseidon, Polyphemus, and more. The poem uses in media res, a narrative technique, which means in the middle of things. Nolan is known to use this concept in his films.
There is no revelation as to who will be playing whom, but there is a great chance Matt Damon might play Odysseus and Holland, his son, Telemachus. While appearing in a recent podcast dubbed The Dish, Holland clearly declined that he doesn't know much about the movie.
Actors including Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, and Matt Damon have worked with the director Tenet, The Dark Knight Rises, and Oppenheimer, respectively. Michael Caine is one of the recurring actors in his films, but we don't know if he will play a part in The Odyssey.
The Odyssey is likely to be a culmination of Christopher Nolan's previous works that include Interstellar, Inception, The Prestige, and more, as it will be dealing with elements like time and space. Homer's poem deals with all of them, including supernatural and magical events.
Nolan has given the world some of the best films that the industry has ever seen. Some of them were selected to be preserved with the National Film Registry. Films like Inception and The Dark Knight are considered among the greatest movies of all time; another is likely on the way.
As the X post reveals, the Christopher Nolan film opens in theatres on July 17, 2026.
