Williamson County district attorney declined to pursue domestic violence charges against Kansas City Chiefs player Xavier Worthy, after the player was accused of allegedly choking a woman living in his home in Texas.
Xavier Worthy, from California is a player at the Kansas City Chiefs, and was drafted in the 2024 NFL Draft. While noting the current scenario of the case, Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick's office in an email to Austin American-Statesman noted:
"After further investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff's office and further discussion with a third party witness, Mr Worthy and his attorneys, this case is being declined at this time pending completion of the investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff's Office."
The mail noted that Worthy and his lawyers are "fully cooperation" with the investigation.
Worthy was released on March 8, 2025, after he was arrested on March 7 for third-degree felony in Texas. As per the state code, a third-degree felony is,
"intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly impeding the normal breathing or circulation of the blood of the person by applying pressure to the person's throat or neck or by blocking the person's nose or mouth."
What did Xavier Worthy's lawyers have to say about his domestic violence arrest?
Xavier Worthy's lawyers in a statement mentioned that the women in question, had refused to leave his residence after finding out about his alleged infidelity, and had taken to damaging his property, scratching his face, and tearing his hair. Worthy's lawyers had photos as reference for proof. The lawyer's statement mentioned:
"She has refused to vacate the residence and made a number of extortive efforts prior to resorting to this baseless allegation against Mr. Worthy. The complainant further destryoed a room in one residence, scratched Mr. Worthy's face and ripped out parts of his hair, which there is photographic evidence of."
The lawyers stated Worthy chose not to press charges against the woman at the time of the incident, and added that they would continue to support Xavier Worthy's innocence. Kansas City Chiefs, in a statement via NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero said at the time:
"We are aware of the matter and have been in contact with the club."
While the player has not directly addressed the legal drama, he shared a pair of cryptic social media posts on March 9. In one post, the player shared a message on X with two prayer hands emojis. In another post, Worthy shared an Instagram story featuring his new hairstyle and a caption mentioning:
"New beginnings."
