Known Trump critic and CNN’s veteran anchor, Jim Acosta, is reportedly leaving the network following a change in his slot. As per Status newsletter, Cable News Network (CNN) recently overhauled its programming schedule, replacing Acosta’s 10:00 am slot with The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer and Pamela Brown.
Reports suggested that the anti-Trump anchor was asked to take up the midnight slot, which apparently caused the conflict. Subsequently, Oliver Darcy reported via Status newsletter that Acosta had indicated his departure from CNN during “private conversations over the weekend.”
The news has garnered polarizing reactions from both ends of the political spectrum. The Republicans are cheering, while the Democrat supporters have displayed their dismay. A user on X even called CNN “Channel Nobody Needs,” as they wrote,
“Jim Acosta was the only one I watched on CNN. Now..I will never have to see CNNs channel on my timer ever again. THANK YOU. Channel Nobody Needs. I hope he gets Andrea Mitchell's time slot on msnbc.”

Democrat supporters call for MSNBC to hire former CNN anchor Jim Acosta, while Republicans are overjoyed
Acosta’s critical coverage during Trump’s first term and his heated exchange with the 45th President earned him respect and hate from liberals and conservatives, respectively. As soon as the reports about his departure from CNN started floating around, netizens quickly provided their opinions.
Many Democratic Party-leaning users sent their support to the anchor. Acosta’s supporters even called for MSNBC to hire the reporter following his reported ouster from Cable News Network.
“I hope MSNBC scoops Jim Acosta up. He's the only one I watch on CNN,” a user said.
“CNN's loss will hopefully be MSNBC's gain. Jim Acosta is a real talent and one of the few journalists in Washington who hasn't pre-surrendered to Donald Trump. We need more of him, not less,” another user added.
“Give Jim Acosta a daytime slot on MSNBC,” someone asked the network.
“If @MSNBC is smart, they'll offer Jim Acosta a job paying more than he made at CNN. @Acosta and this shirt is still my favorite photos 😌🤌,” another one claimed.
A user declared,
“I will start watching @msnbc again if they hire Jim Acosta !!!”
Another user said,
“I can think of a few hosts MSNBC could boot to hire Jim Acosta.”
Another one wrote,
“Jim Acosta is leaving CNN. Good for him getting out of there after they were trying to stick him on at midnight.”
However, not all posts were favorable, as conservative users shared their takes on CNN’s prominent news anchor. A user said,
“CNN finally cutting ties with Acosta proves even they have limits on performative drama.”
“Poor little fella isn't even trending,” another one wrote.
“"But but but, I'm a real journalist! Look at how well I read off this teleprompter.",” someone trolled the anchor.
“The world is healing,” another one chimed in.
“Good news! How long before he and Don Lemon start their own YT channel?,” a user speculated.
Acosta joined CNN in 2007 and later covered Obama’s campaign for his first term. During his stint at Cable News Network, Acosta, a senior White House correspondent, covered the Obama and Trump White Houses. In 2018, he even got promoted to chief White House correspondent.
In 2018, Acosta engaged in a heated verbal exchange with Trump, where the latter even described the former as “a rude, terrible person.” Jim’s press pass was briefly revoked by the Trump White House but was later restored after CNN decided to choose the legal path.
During Trump’s first term, Acosta continued to display his criticism of the president while often engaging in heated debates with his press secretaries during press conferences.
