Until Dawn has been released in theaters after much anticipation. An adaptation of the video game of the same name, the survival horror film tells the story of a group of friends who are hunted down by a mysterious killer in a remote valley.

However, they keep waking up again and again, only to live through the horror every day. The movie has been appreciated for its eerie vibe and for keeping the audience on the edge of their seats.

Fans who have liked the film have been wondering whether it will get a second part. Director David F. Sandberg has now shared a positive update on the Until Dawn sequel. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Sandberg said the horror has the potential to be turned into a franchise:

“I’m always open to anything. I just want to focus on one movie, get it done, and then take a break to catch my breath before seeing what happens. But, for sure, you could do much more with Until Dawn.”
“You could again have different horror genres involving another group of people. You could do almost anything with this, so it’s certainly possible.”

David F. Sandberg is open to the idea of an Until Dawn sequel

During the interview, David F. Sandberg also said that he feels exhausted after finishing a film and needs to take a break when he feels like he will never work on a project again. However, he does return to work eventually:

“Whenever I finish a movie, I feel like I never want to do a movie again. It’s such a challenge, and it’s so tough. There’s so much anxiety and lack of sleep, but then I just can’t stay away from it. I have to make movies. So, right now, I feel like, “I don’t want to make another movie ever,” but then I’ll do another movie.”

There are multiple ways in which Until Dawn could be continued for a second installment. The potential sequel can bring back characters from the first film, or focus on a fresh set of people who head to the valley and become the target of a killer. The original film has ended in a way that has already set up a potential sequel.

The second installment’s fate will ultimately be decided by the box office performance of Until Dawn. If the film turns out to be a commercial success, the producers might want to continue the franchise with a sequel.

The film stars Ella Rubin as Clover, Michael Cimino as Max, Odessa A'zion as Nina, Maia Mitchell as Melanie, Belmont Cameli as Abe, Peter Stormare as Dr. Hill, and Ji-young Yoo as Megan.
