Along with Onah’s debut in the MCU, Captain America: Brave New World also marks Mackie’s debut as Captain America after the second MCU Disney+ series titled The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The film also brings Harrison Ford as President Thaddeus Ross/The Red Hulk.

Reflecting on his filmmaking journey, Onah told Esquire Magazine:

"It's been a long road making movies. I had a period where I was busing tables…. Now I'm here, getting to make a movie called Captain America…It's something I'm just really, really grateful for."

With Brave New World being the MCU’s newest chapter, Julius Onah shared his vision and thoughts for where Anthony Mackie’s Captain America should go next.

Taking Captain America to a Global Level

In an interview with Esquire, Onah revealed that he would like to explore Captain America’s role, journey, and character now outside the U.S., concentrating on his impact in a modern and worldwide landscape.

Onah stated that;

"It would be very interesting to explore what it means to be Captain America on an international stage in this day and age… and what his role is in the world."

While Steve Rogers as Captain America functioned inside the U.S. and engaged in outer worldly battles, later on, Sam Wilson’s Captain America could undertake political and geopolitical challenges. Onah talked about Captain America: The First Avenger but implied a modern and current version of that narrative for Mackie’s Captain America.

He says that;

“We've certainly, over the course of the MCU, felt a sense of his role in the universe and on an intergalactic level, but there's something even more interesting about exploring that on an intercontinental and global level.”

The Captain America: Brave New World director wishes for the character that Mackie’s version of Captain America could signify more than just American principles and morals. Onah addresses in the interview that he would want Mackie’s Captain America to stand in globally whereas the superhero now also addresses global world issues internationally apart from the U.S.

What Could be Nect for Mackie’s Cap After Captain America: Brave New World?

With Captain America: Brave New World being the most recent movie to be released in the MCU in the year 2025, fans are eager to know what could be next in store for the new Captain America.

Onah’s vision insinuates a ground-level political thriller style, much like Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but on a bigger and international scale.

The MCU has already touched international grounds with Black Panther. If Onah’s thoughts and ideas come to life, Captain America’s future challenges might just involve him figuring out global issues instead of just national terrors.

As Captain America: Brave New World introduces a new version of Captain America to the MCU, Onah’s ideas insinuate an even broader future for Mackie’s Captain America. By taking the superhero above and beyond the U.S., the MCU could just possibly make a run-through of what it means to be Captain America in today’s world.
