British actor-comedian Russell Brand broke the internet this week when an image of him performing a baptism on someone in a lake while only in white underwear went viral. The 49-year-old could be seen standing alongside two other men, one of whom was also in his briefs. Brand took to X on September 28, to share the image, along with the caption:

"It might seem a bit soon to be baptizing people, but the Apostles did it on day one, so here we are."

Fans react to Russell Brand's "tighty whiteys"

However, the internet grew uncomfortable with his newfound practices, as the masses began pouring their thoughts and quips in the comments section of his post. "Bro the tighty whiteys tho?" a netizen asked.

Several others reacted to the image, either with cutthroat remarks or humorous lines.

"I did not have "Russell Brand baptizing people in his tighty-whities" on my 2024 bingo card :)" one user joked.
"I sometimes think Russell Brand is just trolling everyone," another claimed.
"Why is he in a full wetsuit and you guys are in your undies?" another asked.

Several took notice of his choice of clothing:

"Jesus Russell put some pants on," one user advised.
"In ur tightly whiteys? Really?" yet another user probed.
"Russell, I've learned a lot about you over the years and have really come to be a huge fan, it was great meeting at the RNC but of ALL THE THINGS said about you, some true and some untrue the "tightie whiteys" is the most shocking reveal of them all..," one user penned.

Some simply disregarded his outfit and instead, cheered for him on his newfound calling, while others dubbed him "satanic."

The actor himself shot back, taking to X on September 30, 2024:

"I suppose, looking at it now, it does look a bit immodest, me doing a baptism in underpants like that. But the truth is, I took off my clothes and my underpants is all I'm wearing underneath my clothes. ... It wasn't a planned photo shoot, some of my mates took photos for their friend actually."

He continued, noting that he reads the comments and is aware of what everyone is saying about him.

He has been vocal about his faith on social media since late 2023. While details surrounding his church or pastor are unknown, Russell Brand was baptized in the River Thames by Bear Grylls this April. He has revealed that he reads the Bible regularly.
