Meek Mill caught mass attention earlier today when he took to X to show some love to Burkina Faso. He called on the latter to hop on X, noting that he has been a fan of his for a while now. However, fans have since dissected his words and begun mocking him.
Here's what he tweeted:
"Burkina Faso need social media, I been following him for a while now! I like his energy and heart!"
While critics were quick to point out that Burkina Faso is an entire country in West Africa, others defended Meek Mill, noting that he could have been talking about the President of Burkina Faso, Ibrahim Traoré. Here's how one person reacted:
"Bro, it’s an entire country, not a SoundCloud rapper waiting for your co-sign. Do some research before spewing nonsense."
Even more, hopped on the bandwagon to diss the rapper:
"Most Africans are undereducated so it’s okay for the majority to misunderstand this particular post. If he says Burkina Faso needs social media and goes ahead to say I been following him for a while. Who’s the head of the country? Must he mention his name b4 you understand him?" someone probed.
"This guy never cease to amaze me. Imagine thinking Burkina Faso a whole country is an individual bruh," another dissed.
"Meek, BRUH!!! Burkina Faso?! You really out here talking like it’s a guy you’ve been following on IG, not an entire COUNTRY! What’s next, you sliding into its DMs asking for a collab?! C’mon, Meek! You been following 'him' for a while? Who, the president or the flag?! Love your energy, man, but this one’s straight-up comedy. Keep it coming—I needed the laugh! Shakes head, laughs, and sips an imaginary drink," a third person echoed.
"Meek, bro.. respect goes a long way. We aren't sure if you're just too lazy to open Google and do a lil bit of reading... this is just pure disrespectful. Do better, bro," another advised.
The comments didn't end there, however, as at one point, a netizen took to X to defend him. Here's how users reacted to that as well:
"Fr I respect the fact that he tried. Shoutout to Captain Burkina Faso, the president of Ibrahim Traore," someone stated.
"It's a typo. The only word missing here is "president". Meek was probably too languorous to edit or delete and repost," another posited.
"I know you mean well but common man, Burkina faso is a country," yet another pointed out.
"You good bro bro? Is Burkina Faso some code name for some dude?" one user questioned sarcastically.
Users online were construing the comment as a sign of disrespect, noting that Meek Mill had Google had his disposal and chose to pass the comment anyway.

Notably, this isn't Meek Mill's first time running into critics online over a comment he passed involving Africa. On December 18, he took to X to ask his fans for some help:
"Where can I buy gold from directly in Africa????" he asked.
Akin to his latest comment, this one, too, drew the ire of everyone online. Users suggested that he resort to Google instead of X for help next time, noting that it would help him far better.
Earlier this month, Meek Mill also made headlines when he dissed the press for their coverage of UnitedHealthcare CEO, Brian Thompson's murder, which to Meek, was excessive. He took to X to has out his rage:
"100 kids get murdered in my hood the press stuck on one CEO ….. I will never get it! When somebody put me to the challenge I’ll collect 1000 guns off Philadelphia street without snitching just helping clean my community! I ain’t come this far for off games! Only pain and growth."
He issued a follow-up tweet as well, noting that the CEO's life was just as important:
"Rip to that CEO too his life matters too. Never over looking the life of a human unless they’re a danger to society... I don’t know anything about no healthcare ceos except 'CINQCARE' because they are for us."
In yet another tweet, Meek Mill claimed "Nobody care about people in the hood dying it’s murders everyday … I can’t even hang in Philly because it’s too many guns and I don’t wanna adapt to the habitat!"
