Justin Vernon is back, this time around with his bandmates of Bon Iver. Their upcoming record, titled SABLE, fABLE, is set to be released on April 11, 2025, by Jagjaguwar, a record label based in Indiana. According to EV Club, the album is a continuation of their EP titled SABLE, (stylized with the comma at the end). The indie folk band had released the EP in October 2024.

While critically acclaimed, fans had questioned the comma in the EP’s title. Now, however, the significance of the punctuation mark is clear: The album SABLE, fABLE will include all the songs of the EP SABLE, and have around nine others, according to Wikipedia

Bon Iver’s SABLE, fABLE: What we Know

SABLE, fABLE will be the first album release of Bon Iver since 2019, and the album comes nearly 18 years after their groundbreaking debut studio album of 2007, For Emma, Forever Ago. The indie folk band's lead Justin Vernon describes the record as an "epilogue" to the mission the band began all those years ago.

According to a press release available on Variety:

"The conceptual genesis for the album occurred on 2.22.22, when Stack arrived at the Base with Danielle Haim. Snowed in for multiple days, Vernon and Haim’s voices intertwined on ‘If Only I Could Wait,’ a duet with crucial perspective, about not having the strength to be the best version of yourself outside the glow of new love."

Some further insights about the album were given by the band’s representatives in the same release:

“If ‘SABLE,’ was the prologue, then ‘fABLE’ is the book – but together, ‘SABLE, fABLE’ is the album, and for that reason it is no fairy tale. There may be something undeniably healing about infatuation, and the intense clarity, focus, honesty and celebration it brings to these songs. ‘Everything Is Peaceful Love’ is the portrait of a man overwhelmed with happiness upon meeting the one he will fall in love with. But the shadow of ‘SABLE,’ still looms, and old feelings can return, even after one has put in the work to reset and start fresh.”

The release delved further into the project, and how it ties in to last October's SABLE, EP.

“Like fables, each track instills a lesson, and ‘fABLE’ is about the selfless rhythm required when one is enmeshed with another person or lover – a patient commitment to finding the pace for betterness, and togetherness. Gone are the evasive and dense layers of sound that guarded Justin Vernon’s voice on ‘i,i’ and ’22, A Million.’ The previous four albums were a cycle of seasons that is now complete; ‘SABLE, fABLE’ is a canvas for truth laid bare.”

‘Everything is Peaceful Love’

While the three songs from the SABLE, EP appear at the beginning of the SABLE, fABLE tracklist, the first new release of the 2025 album will be a track called Everything is Peaceful Love. SABLE, fABLE’s lead single is slated to come out on Valentine’s Day, with an accompanying visual directed by John Wilson.
