Ayesha Howard, who has been engaged in a long-drawn legal battle with the father of her child, Anthony Edwards, has now come to his defense, according to an exclusve Instagram post by TheShadeRoom.
This development comes after a video surfaced showing a mother discouraging her son from purchasing Anthony Edwards' shoes. In the video, the child attempts to buy the shoes, but his mother dissuades him, claiming that Edwards is not a responsible father who takes care of his children. She tells her child:
"Ya, put them back, cause he don't take care of his kids. Makes sense, right!?"
The child is then seen searching for shoes from other players under his mother's direction, as she says:
"Get someone else, like Ja Morant, he takes care of his daughter or Kobe Bryant, he is a great dad, even in afterlife."
Ayesha Howard has now spoken out against the mother’s actions, stating that it is unfair to diminish Edwards' basketball talent because of his personal life. However, she acknowledges the mother’s right to her own moral stance. Ayesha says:
"I'm not sure if this child knows of Anthony's personal issues, and if he doesn't, I think it's unfair to take away the part of Anthony that he does admire, which is obviously his basketball talent. Anthony is a great player, but the mother is in control of what she supports from a moral woman's standpoint."
Her response has shocked fans, with many urging Ayesha Howard to stay out of Edwards' personal matters, especially since the Minnesota Timberwolves player has publicly refused to support or visit his daughter.
Ayesha Howard and Anthony Edwards' long legal battle
Ayesha Howard and Anthony Edwards have been in conflict for some time. Howard gave birth to their daughter, Aubri Summer Howard, in October 2024, and has since sought child support from the NBA player.
Anthony Edwards, 23, previously urged the court to order a paternity test, which later confirmed him as the father. Following the test, he moved to dismiss the case and later stated that he would neither pay child support nor seek visitation rights for his daughter, Aubri.
His legal team has also argued that Howard recently relocated to California to take advantage of the state's child support laws, while Edwards and his team insist that the case should be handled under Georgia law. According to In Touch, a statement from Edwards' entourage said:
"[Ayesha’s] conduct here is unjustifiable and a bad faith attempt to obtain a higher child support order. Ayesha’s conduct of manufacturing a false reality and using the parties’ child for financial gains should not be tolerated."
Meanwhile, Edwards has also been involved in a legal battle with his ex-girlfriend, Daja Carlyle. He filed a petition for legitimation, parenting time, custody, and child support for their child, Aris Ariel Carlyle. The petition noted that although Anthony is the biological father, he currently does not have custody, visitation, or legal rights over Ariel.
