Mikey Madison, the actress, has reportedly declined a role in Shawn Levy's upcoming Star Wars movie starring Ryan Gosling, leading to mixed reactions on the internet, with some surprised and others supportive of her decision.

According to Variety, rumors had speculated that the recent Oscar-winner for Anora was in the running to star in an untitled standalone project, but recent reports indicate that the actress has chosen not to pursue it.

The film, which is still in development, is being directed by Deadpool & Wolverine director, maven Shawn Levy, and penned by Jonathan Tropper.

However, many fans seem convinced that Madison made the right call. Online reactions indicate that staying away from a high-risk, high-pressure franchise like Star Wars is a good choice. One X user pointed out the exact fact that wrote:

"Looks like she isn't interested in just jumping into franchise films. Avoiding the Brie Larson route is smart."
"Probably smart move, Star Wars fans can be gross and malicious." Said another.
"Most people recognize at this point doing star wars will likely hurt their career.." said an internet user.
"She probably made the right decision. Disney hasn’t done a decent job with Star Wars since Rogue One in 2016." Wrote a user.
"Mikey is so cool... Imagine having the confidence at her age, right after winning the Oscar, to pass on Disney/Star Wars. And I love Star Wars, btw. I just think she's better than their current product." Remarked a Star Wars fan.

While most people appreciated and supported Mikey Madison's decision, long-time Star Wars fans and critics thought it was a bad move.

"Mikey Madison said no to Star Wars? Bold move-curious what she's cooking up instead." Commented a X user.
"Won an oscar and thinks she’s the biggest star out there … girl go out there and WORK!!!" Remarked another.
"Dang she either missed out big time or dogged a stinker." Said a fan.

What we know about Shawn Levy's upcoming Star Wars movie

Shawn Levy's directed Star Wars film is making headway after a lengthy period of development delays, most of which were attributed to the 2023 Hollywood strikes. The project was first announced in late 2022, and after some setbacks, it is finally moving forward with Jonathan Tropper as the screenwriter, who also worked on The Adam Project.

According to ScreenRant, Shawn Levy stated that the film will be a self-contained story beyond the Skywalker saga and is intended to explore new areas of the Star Wars universe.

"I don’t want to do a Star Wars movie that is redundant to others, nor am I interested in doing one that has to serve another movie." He said in an interview with Josh Horowitz.

According to Shawn Levy, this leaves room for even more stories in the less explored eras like the Old Republic, the High Republic, the New Republic, or the post-Rise of Skywalker timelines. Additionally, reports indicate that Ryan Gosling is said to be in talks for a lead role.
