Avengers: Doomsday is a part of the sixth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and the forthcoming superhero film marks the return of Joe and Anthony Russo as directors in MCU after 2019's Avengers: Endgame.
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures is scheduled to release the film on May 1, 2026. According to latest updates, two actors to join the film's cast are Rebecca Romijn and Alan Cumming. Both of them have appeared in the X-Men franchise and are expected to have pivotal roles in the new film. Let's check out the details.
Rebecca Romijn and Alan Cumming to appear in Avengers: Doomsday
The makers of Avengers: Doomsday have revealed several cast members as the film goes into production, and the long list of actors now includes Rebecca Romijn and Alan Cumming. Rebecca had portrayed Raven Darkhölme aka Mystique in X-Men, X2, X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: First Class.
Alan, who played Kurt Wagner aka Nightcrawler in X2, also returns in the forthcoming Avengers film. Besides these two, several other X-Men are making an appearance. They include Ian McKellen (as Magneto), Kelsey Grammar (Beast), James Marsden (Cyclops), Channing Tatum (Gambit), and Patrick Stewart (Professor X). Letitia Wright as Shuri aka Black Panther is in the cast, too.
Marvel earlier announced Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man) and Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes) as part of the cast. Vanessa Kirby, who portrays Sue Storm in Fantastic Four: First Steps, features in Avengers: Doomsday, too. The film is written by Stephen McFeely and Michael Waldron while the Russo brothers and Kevin Feige are the producers under AGBO and Marvel Studios.
Last year, Robert Downey Jr. was revealed to be Victor von Doom aka Doctor Doom in the forthcoming film. Interestingly, he has earlier portrayed Iron Man/Tony Stark in the MCU and his character died at the end of Avengers: Endgame. According to The Independent, in an interview with Omlette Joe Russo revealed that it was Kevin Feige's idea to bring back Robert Downey Jr. However, the ball started to roll only after the film's writer came up with a story. Russo said:
“And then one day Steve McFeely, who's one of our key collaborators, said, ‘I have an idea.’ And we went, ‘That’s the story. That story has to be told. It's a really powerful story.’”
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to be released on May 1, 2026.
