According to an article by US Weekly, actress and comedian Aubrey Plaza requested a welfare check on her husband, Jeff Beana, months before his demise. For the unversed, before Beana's death, the couple had parted ways privately, as per The Hollywood Reporter.
The US Weekly obtained a medical examiner's report which mentioned that a friend of Aubrey checked Beana's medical well-being in October 2024, one month after the couple's separation (the couple reportedly separated in September 2024). The report read that Beana's behavior was alarming which made Aubrey worried and send her friend to check on him.
The report further mentioned that Beana and Aubrey were in contact on the day of his demise and Beana had also sent a text to Aubrey the same day.
All we know about Beana's demise and the former couple
In January 2025, news reports regarding Beana's death started coming to the surface. According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, he died by suicide.
47-year-old Beana's body was discovered at his LA home by his dog walker, as per the medical examiner's report.
"This is an unimaginable tragedy,” Aubrey's spokesperson told US Weekly in January 2025. “We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time.”
Beana and Aubrey got married in May 2021 after dating for almost a decade. The two met over a game of Balderdash. The actress has not officially addressed the reason for their split.
On the 50th anniversary of Saturday Night Live, the actress paid homage to her late husband. She wore a tie-dye t-shirt underneath her blazer which Beana was seemingly fond of.
As per a coroner's report by People Magazine, Plaza and Beana were experiencing 'some marriage difficulties' that led to their separation in September.
According to US Weekly, Aubrey appeared in an episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show and mentioned that she and Beana had spent time together during quarantine which led them to bring up the topic of marriage.
"We got a little bored one night. We got married and I’ll tell you how: Onehourmarriage.com. That’s real, look it up,” Plaza said. “We were in the lockdown. Things got a little crazy, especially in my house. My husband got really into tie-dying and when I say tie-dying, I mean 50 shirts a day.”
After the discussion, Aubrey and Beana's marriage ceremony was organized in their backyard.
Aubrey further gave details about their intimate marriage ceremony and said that she created a love altar quickly and had a quiet yet romantic ceremony.
"I created a very quick love altar in our yard. Facts of our love, little stones, smoke, fire. Things of that nature,” the American actress exclaimed. “Then the man from Alhambra showed up in a Hawaiian shirt with a briefcase [to perform the ceremony]. … I can’t remember a lot of it, it was fuzzy. But I’m pretty sure it’s legal.”
Beana's friends and family have also expressed their grief and called his demise an "unimaginable tragedy".
