Ariana Grande is still basking in the sweet success of the theatrical masterpiece of Wicked, as the film continues to sweep nominations at award shows, all the while preparing for its sequel, Wicked: For Good.

Releasing in two parts, the first part of Wicked has seen incredible success at the box office and has received worldwide critical acclaim for all the performances in the film, including several award nominations for the cast and crew. As fans continue to wait for the second part of the film, Ariana Grande dropped an interesting update on the premise of the next film.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress assured fans that the sequel is going to be much darker than its predecessor, and she is still recovering from the dark tones of the film. She says,

“I’m still recovering,”

Without revealing any further details, the actress left it at that little spoiler. The dark tones surrounding the sequel will certainly be a delight to explore as we witness more of Elphaba's venture into the Shiz.

The success of Wicked

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande were two of the leading ladies in 2024, thanks to their blockbuster film adaptation of one of the most popular Broadway plays. Erivo played Elphaba and Grande played Glinda. The two roles were cast to perfection, and the array of nominations the two have managed to grab is proof of that. Wicked ended up becoming one of the most successful films of the year and also is the most successful Broadway adaptation ever.

The film is currently up for ten Oscars at this year's Academy Awards, with nods going toward the cast, its music, and the crew behind it.

Speaking of the overwhelming response her portrayal of Glinda has received, Ariana Grande said,

“It’s a beautiful thing to feel like the work that I’m doing or have done is kind of, I suppose, I don’t know, enough or louder or whatever it is. This feeling that people are seeing me — like, actually me — it’s so silly because I’ve been seen for so long, but it feels like it’s maybe for the first time and it’s just different.”

The film will take off from where it ended things, as Elphaba becomes the Wicked Witch of the West. All the cast members from the previous film will be joining the second film as Jon M. Chu continues to direct it.

Wicked: For Good is set to hit theaters on November 21 this year.
