Wicked stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo have been noticed in tears frequently during the film's press tour. While some fans appreciated their displays of emotion, others made a compilation of them into funny memes on social media. During a recent interview with E!, Ariana acknowledged the crying saying,

"We've cried 500 times today. And honestly, this is a PSA. So sorry, guys."

Erivo went on to add that there is "nothing that we can do about it." Following Erivo's comment, Grande addressed the "annoying" comments over her crying, stating,

"If you're just gonna comment saying how annoying it is, I'll say it first. I'm annoyed, I'm tired. My tear ducts (are tired). It' been like, three years people! Why do emotional availability scare you so."

While Erivo added that their tears are from joy,

"We've come through a massive, massive thing, and we've really struck together."

Grande and Erivo will be seen in the roles of Glinda and Elphaba in their upcoming movie, Wicked, which is set to release in the United States on November 22, 2024.

The film was pushed back earlier due to COVID-19 related production days. Following that, the movie began shooting in December 2022, but had to be halted due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.

"May we have one million tissues please?" - asks Ariana Grande

The recent interview with E! isn't the first time Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo had acknowledged their emotions on Wicked's press tour. While speaking to Kyle Buchanan of the New York Times in an interview in October, Ariana asked,

"Excuse me. May we have one million tissues please?"

To which, Erivo added saying that the "tears would fall every single time" since the filming of the production had been very emotional. When Kyle asked about how they felt about the multiple halts in production, Erivo noted that although it felt like an "interruption" at first, they worked themselves "to the bone." Ariana Grande also added that no matter how much time passed, the two would slip right into character after getting into the costumes.

Understandbly so, the two actresses had spent significant amount of time together and said that they were at each other's houses a lot, with Erivo noting that they got "many tattoos together."

While talking about her friendship with Erivo, Grande said that she feels really inspired by her "fierce" ability to be "truthful" and "protect herself."

The actor revealed that spending time with Erivo helped her become a an "ally" to herself.
