In a recent interview with E! News, Gayheart provided an update, where she talked about a possible steps being taken to maintain the relationship. She spoke of the good dynamics they’ve established.

"We are best of friends. We are really close. We are great coparents. We really figured out the formula to staying a family and I think our kids are benefiting greatly from it and we are as well."

Eric Dane and Rebecca Gayheart began dating in 2003, and it escalated quickly into a long-term relationship. Their romance resulted in a marriage in Las Vegas on October 29, 2004, 10 months after they began dating.

The early years of the couple’s life together were marked by a major controversy. Dane entered rehab for prescription painkiller dependency in 2011, and Gayheart stood by him. Dane candidly discussed his mistakes in the past in 2014 but said that his biggest regret was involving Gayheart in their fallout.

"We've all made mistakes. My one regret is that I got the person I love most wrapped up in all that: Rebecca," he told people.

The couple shares two daughters together: Billie and Georgia. The couple had been married for more than a decade before Rebecca Gayheart filed for divorce in 2018, citing irreconcilable differences. The divorce hasn't been approved yet, and now the couple seems to be getting along well with each other.

Rebecca Gayheart has also spoken publicly about the challenges of their breakup, saying in 2018 that co-parenting was difficult but inevitable. She said:
