Anya Taylor-Joy's wedding was a spectacle. As she got hitched to Malcolm McRae in a secret ceremony with close people around, the actress revealed the news two years later through an Instagram post.
The wedding featured a white Dior gown and "anatomically correct heart cakes." Sharing pictures of the ceremony, she wrote,
Two years ago, on April Fools, I secretly married my best friend in New Orleans. The magic of that day is ingrained in every cell of my being, forever. Happy second ( first ) anniversary my love…you’re the coolest. N.B yes, those are anatomically correct heart cakes. Yes, I am the vampire Lestat.
However, the actress has now revealed that she sneaked in a prop from The Northman for her wedding. And it's- surprisingly- a sword.
In an interview with Jake's Takes, Anya Taylor-Joy revealed that she used the sword from The Northman to stab the heart cakes at her wedding, as Miles Teller sat beside her and commented "it was pretty badass."
The ceremony took place in New Orleans and was followed by a second, grander wedding at the historic Palazzo Pisani Moretta in Venice last October.
McRae and Joy first met in 2021 and have been together ever since. Following that, they have shown up for public events together and have been a part of each other's social media posts as well. McRae has even written an original song for the actress called 'Really Want To See You Again.'
Who does Anya Taylor-Joy play in The Northman?
Anya Taylor-Joy plays Slavic sorceress Olga in Robert Eggers' The Northman. A period drama film, The Northman explored Norse mythology as it told the story of Amleth, a Viking prince who wanted to avenge his father's death. Anya's character is central to the story as she stands as Amleth's support system and becomes an eventual love interest later in the film. Her character is said to be inspired by a historic warrior saint Olga, who lived between 890 and 925 AD. She is depicted as a strategist in the film, and her character is heavily influenced by Slavic and Norse mythologies.
The film opened to mostly positive reviews, with praise going to Alexander Skarsgard for his portrayal of Amleth and Robert Eggers for his stunning direction. The cast also included Nicole Kidman, Ethan Hawke, William Dafoe and Björk, among others.
The Northman is available to stream on Prime Video.
