Anthony Mackie opens up about the excessive reshoots for the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World
Anthony Mackie has addressed the excessive reshoots in Captain America: Brave New World as he spoke to Esquire, where he asserts that reshooting has been a common practice in the process of filmmaking not just in Marvel and DC films but other famous production companies as well, by saying:
“Every movie that Marvel has made, every movie that DC has made—Star Wars, Star Trek, Disney—has done reshoots.”
As per reports at IMDb, whilst speaking to Empire Magazine in 2024, Anthony Mackie elaborated more about the reshooting claims where he makes a clear distinction that they have reshot, and not remade or retooled it, as he states:
"It wasn’t retooled at all, every Marvel movie I’ve done has done reshoots, so it’s not retooling or remaking,"
He continues -
"You basically get the movie and the story you want, you edit it together, then go back and shoot a few more scenes."
Reshooting, if needed, can certainly be imperative in the process of filmmaking to improve the quality of the film and enhance the aspects that can bring it closer to the filmmaker's imagination while keeping the narration and the important elements intact.
With bigger films comes bigger responsibility, especially with a big-budget Superhero movie such as Captain America: Brave New World, where a lot of hopes are tied up. Perhaps the makers wanted to be more attentive to delivering the perfect Marvel movie.
Anthony Mackie further talks to Esquire about what he thinks about Captain America: Brave New World, where Mackie says it is "the best movie" and does not divert from what Captain America is, as he expresses:
“It’s literally the best movie it can be. It stays in the lines of Marvel. It stays in the lines of Captain America, and it’s fun and it’s big.”
Captain America: Brave New World is undoubtedly very close to Anthony Mackie, and he harbors immense gratification in being a part of this film, as he further mentions:
"Captain America is my Oscar"
He adds -
“Because I’ve been overlooked so many times in my career.”
