Former CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield, in an appearance on News Nation, warned that there will be a bird flu pandemic, far worse than the COVID-19 pandemic. Redfield, while describing the pandemic, said, "It's not a question of if, but when."

A case from Louisiana was the first serious illness caused by bird flu to be reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. As per the cdc.gov, the first severe case was confirmed by the Center on December 13, and it was also noted that there have been 61 reported human cases of H5 bird flu in the United States.

After Dr. Robert Redfield's statement was reposted on X by Shadow of Ezra, netizens took to comment, claiming that the disease is a "man-made virus" allegedly similar to COVID-19.

"Human to human means it was created in a lab and released by the government," a netizen noted
"They have a very strange feeling it should really become a problem in approx 1 month from now," a user commented
"In other words they’re still in the trial stage and will be released soon," another user commented
"Well, I guess if COVID didn't get us, the bird flu will. Bets in Pfizer already has a jab for that," a user claimed

More about the Bird Flu virus

The H5N1 virus first reemerged in Europe in 2020 and has become a widespread disease in birds. As per the CDC, infected birds shed these influenza viruses through their saliva, mucous, and feces, and the virus may be present in respiratory secretions, different organs, blood, or in other body fluids, including animal milk.

The virus can spread to humans if the virus gets into the person's eyes, nose, or mouth or is inhaled.

California Governor Gavin Newsom issues an emergency proclamation on December 18 after more bird flu cases were detected in Southern California dairy cows.

Newsom, in a statement, said,

"This proclamation is a targeted action to ensure government agencies have the resources and flexibility they need to respond quickly to this outbreak."

UC San Francisco infectious disease specialist, Dr. Peter Chin-Hong, reported that the disease has already become a "pandemic" in birds, and they are trying to prevent it from "becoming a pandemic in humans."

California Governor Newsom noted that California has implemented efforts to combat the virus from spreading to humans by asking dairy farms and poultry farms to minimize farm worker exposure. The governor also said that while the "risk to the public remains low," his government will take all the necessary steps to prevent an outbreak of the virus.
