Matt Damon, who was previously about to join in the cast of Animals with Ben Affleck, shall now only join Ben Affleck in co-producing the film with Dani Bernfled, in Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's joint production banner 'Artists Equity', along with executive producers Kevin Halloran, Lucy Damon and Michael Joe. Along with Artists Equity, the other production companies that are on board include MakeReady Banner and Fifth Season.

According to The Deadline, the reason for not being able to finalize Matt Damon in starring in the film is due to difficulties in acquiring the rights, which resulted in the postponement of its production dates. As per reports in Variety, as Matt Damon is also a part of the upcoming Christopher Nolan movie The Odyssey, the filming schedules of both productions were colliding.

The duo have made successful artistic collaborations before as well, when they received an Academy Award for jointly writing the screenplay of Good Will Hunting (1997). If not this time in Animals, but they shall be seen together on screen very soon in the upcoming film of Joe Carnahan's RIP.

The filming of Animals is anticipated to commence in the month of April, in Los Angeles, as per reports at The Hollywood Reporter.
