Cheers star Ted Danson on November 22's episode of Jennifer Hudson show revealed that he has often been mistaken for his celebrity doppelganger Tony Danza. He said that when people mistakenly call him Tony, he "doesn't look around",

"There was a period for about five years. I'll tell you who it was, it was Tony Danza."

Ted added that while he believes the two look nothing alike, the confusion might have caused due to the names, "Ted Danson, Tony Danza." While recalling the first time such a mixup happened, Ted said,

"The first time (the mixup) happened to me, I was in New York, and a bunch of construction workers, I walked by, and they went, 'Hey, Tony.' And I don't look around. because my name's Ted. And, 'Hey! Tony Danza! What are you, too good for us now?"

When host Jennifer Hudson asked if he ever responded, Ted said "No" and added, "I kept going just to make sure that Tony got a little..." he then jokingly pounded a fist into his other hand.

Ted Danson says he once signed an autograph with Tony Danza's name

While speaking about his reaction when people mixed up him and Tony Danza, Ted Danson revealed that he once signed an autograph with Danza's name, saying, "People, fame, whatever."

Other than the mixup happening due to the similar-sounding names, another reason could be that both Danson and Danza gained recognition through sitcoms at the same time. While Danson appeared as Sam on Cheers in 1982, Danza appeared in Taxi in 1978 and Who's The Bus, in 1984.

Ted Danson is all geared up for his upcoming Netflix series, A Man on the Inside, which revolves around a retired person turned amateur private investigator. While speaking to PEOPLE about the show, earlier this month, he said,

"I feel the same joy I did in my late 20s when I drove through the studio gate."

He said that seeing his fellow actors, the crew, and the security guards makes him "very happy" which is why he thinks he "works a lot."

Recently, Danson was also seen in the series, The Good Place as Michael, and in Mr. Mayor. Ted Danson added that he finds joy in being 76, and using his age as an asset for doing funny roles saying, "Oh my God, my greatest joy is to be funny possibly in every possible way I can."
